Job Overview

Hoxworth Blood Center (HBC) was founded in 1938 and serves more than 30 hospitals in 18 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeastern Indiana. Annually, HBC collects more than 100,000 units of blood from local donors to help save the lives of patients in area hospitals. HBC is located within the University of Cincinnati (UC), College of Medicine (COM). UC COM has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, UC COM's faculty and staff are transforming the world of medicine every day.

Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, is recruiting for two (2) full-time Manager positions to manage the Cellular Therapies department to support local HEME/ONC BMT and other clinical programs and direct, coordinate, develop, and continually improve operations. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Hoxworth Blood Center Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). The primary purpose of position is management of people, assets, serviced programs, projects and fiscal resource.

Essential Functions

  • Manage day-to-day activities and operations of the cell therapies department.
    Create daily staff schedules and manage overtime use
  • Track and monitor departmental key performance indicators
  • Ensure timely completion of charting and deviations, including supervisory review.
  • Aid in change control management, implementation, and departmental representation.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of the Cell Therapy Unit's procedures, goals and objectives.
  • Update policies and SOPs to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and best practices.
  • Communicate appropriately to staff, clients, students, external departments and others as needed.
  • Answer technical and medical questions when appropriate.
  • Provide training and education to onboard new hires and develop existing staff
  • Assist with the development of the annual budget and monitor monthly expenses and revenues.
  • Represent the university and Hoxworth in a positive manner and serve as a liaison with internal and external agents.
  • Serve on various university, division and departmental committees, attend meetings/conferences.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.


Required Education

Bachelor's Degree.

Required Experience

Five (5) years of experience in clinical processing of cellular products in a cell therapy laboratory.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
  • At least one (1) year of formal or informal supervisory experience is ideal.

  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
