The Parks Division of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is looking for a dynamic, passionate, and collaborative individual for the Superintendent II position at Fort Kearny State Historical Park and Recreation Area to help create a welcoming landscape for visitors to enjoy. JOB DUTIES:
• Under the direction of the Park Superintendent III, responsible for the preservation, interpretation, maintenance, and administration of Fort Kearny State Historical Park, Fort Kearny State Recreation Area, Sandy Channel SRA, Union Pacific SRA and KOEC SRA.
• Campground and facility maintenance, grounds keeping, cultural and natural resource management, trail maintenance, fire suppression, noxious weed management and ensure staff/visitor safety.
• Hire, train, and supervise seasonal staff.
• Maintenance, operation, and ordering of tools, materials, and equipment.
• Collect data, maintain records, prepare reports and collect fees.
• Lead and communicate with the community and general public in the efforts of park development and promotion.
• Other duties as required.

Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in park/recreation management or a related field; (wildlife, fisheries, natural resources sciences, public administration, history, cultural resource preservation or interpretation, travel and tourism, and planning) AND two years related experience including one year in a supervisory or lead worker capacity. Related coursework/training and/or experience in park/recreation management or related field may substitute for the Bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
Other: Valid driver's license. Housing is provided.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge and interest in park management, principles and techniques of supervision, Nebraska wildlife, natural and cultural resources, and outdoor recreation.
- Knowledge of maintaining and operating shooting range facilities.
- Work and make decisions independently and as a team.
- Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials that may exceed 50 lbs.
- The operation, maintenance, and repair of park buildings, facilities, and equipment.
- General knowledge of plumbing, electrical and carpentry
- Learn and apply agency rules and regulations.
- Clearly present and communicate information to varied audiences.
- Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, administrative personnel, and the public.
- Bend, stoop, climb, reach frequently; work outdoors; remain standing and/or walking for long periods of time.
