Position Specific Description

This position is in the Environmental Permitting Section of the Corporate Environmental Services Department supporting new development opportunities for NextEra Energy Resources and other NextEra Energy affiliates. Primary responsibilities include obtaining all required federal, state, and local environmental licenses, permits, and approvals for development projects in Wyoming, Utah, and Montana, as well as providing other project support such as siting.

The primary focus will be on licensing and permitting new solar, wind, energy storage, and transmission facilities. Applicant will work closely with developers, engineers, and subject matter experts to develop and execute permit acquisition strategies. Applicant must have the ability to support multiple projects with multifaceted environmental and regulatory issues, the ability to assist in comprehensive environmental due diligence reviews for potential acquisitions, and be willing to the Mountain West up to 50% of the time, when needed.

The successful candidate must maintain current knowledge of pertinent national and state-level environmental policies and regulations, can effectively interface with internal regulators, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders, and be able to assist in resolving complex environmental matters. They will help identify compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, as well as company policies. Experience with the Wyoming Industrial Development Information and Siting Act, Montana Environmental Policy Act (MEPA), and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) is required. The applicant should have project management as well as leadership skills while being prepared to work on teams collaboratively. The successful candidate will have demonstrated communication skills with a diversity of people including regulators, developers, engineers, and subject matter experts.

Compensation includes Base Salary and eligibility for Annual Incentive Bonus.

Job Overview

This job is responsible for obtaining approvals, licenses and permits for construction and operation of new and existing company facilities from federal, state, provincial, regional and local agencies. Employees in this job serves as the subject matter expert providing specialized environmental expertise and environmental technical support to ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations and permits.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive environmental due diligence reviews, assists with facility compliance audits, and conducts environmental licensing and permitting activities
• Provides specialized expertise to ensure cost effective environmental solutions that maximize operational flexibility, maximize environmental benefits for costs incurred, and contribute to improved system reliability and customer satisfaction
• Translates regulations and permits into actionable construction compliance tasks
• Obtains permit modifications for existing permits and obtains new permits for construction and maintenance activities
• Provides guidance on alternatives to minimize environmental impacts
• Identifies, tracks, and analyzes environmental construction compliance performance metrics
• Reviews, monitors and comments on emerging legislation and regulations that might have an impact on operations compiles input and data to develop company policy and comments and positions presented to regulators
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned

The estimated base pay for this position is $121,600.00to $182,400.00per year. Starting pay will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, experience, qualifications, job-related and industry knowledge and skills and education/training.
