Job Summary

Under the direction of the Counseling Services (CS) at Student Health & Counseling Services (SHCS), this position serves as a technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and has recognized expertise in specific areas; performs professional behavioral counseling patient/client care (individual, group, crisis intervention, and case management) assigned by quarterly clinic schedule. This work requires analysis of unique and complex issues. While this position will support all UC Davis students, the focus of this position is to provide counseling services in Mandarin. Contributes expertise to campus-wide programs on education, multicultural concerns, and prevention, formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources. Functions with a high degree of autonomy, and provides supervision and training to Counseling Services trainees in an APA accredited internship and APPIC-member postdoctoral program. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team. Complies with professional requirements of SHCS and UC Davis policies and procedures as well as all State and Federal professional legal requirements. Job site/office may be located in one of several Medical Clinics, Academic Satellites, and/or Mental Health Clinic.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Current CPR certification or obtain within 90 days.
  • Masters clinical/counseling degree and licensure is required (e.g., LMFT, LCSW, LPCC). Masters therapist applicants are governed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and are required to possess a valid California license. Masters therapist applicants possessing a valid license in another state must obtain California licensure within 30 days of job offer.
  • Fluent in Mandarin and Experience providing psychotherapy in Mandarin.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse social, cultural or socio-cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience treating diverse clients using short-term models of individual and group psychotherapy/counseling.
  • Experience assessing and intervening when individuals present in crisis.
  • Experience establishing professional work relationships.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives.
  • Knowledge of mental health diagnoses and treatment interventions.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with International college students.
  • Ability to provide supervision to predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees.
  • Knowledge of ethical, legal and university standards and regulations

    Department Overview

    Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) provides primary care, mental health, acute care, laboratory, pharmacy, optometry, health education and counseling services to registered UC Davis students. SHCS serves approximately 300 patients per day during the school year. The mission is to provide campus health and wellness resources that enable students to successfully achieve their academic goals and life-long wellness. UC Davis is a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI). SHCS has approximately 200 staff including managers, senior professionals, professional and support staff, student employees, interns and post doc residents. SHCS is accredited by AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care), IACS (International Accreditation for Counseling Services), and APA (American Psychological Association). SHCS Counseling Services are staffed by an educationally diverse group of licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, masters therapists, and pre-and post-doctoral trainees, dedicated to providing student-centered mental health services, advocacy, outreach, and consultation to promote psychological well-being and academic success. Counseling services are offered at no cost to registered students.

    Work Environment
  • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.
  • Rarely/occasionally work evenings and some weekends.

  • Position is subject to pre-placement screening provided by Occupational Health Services. Pre-placement screening will consist of infection control testing that includes blood tests for TB screening and other infectious diseases and may include a physical exam, provided by Occupational Health Services, given at no charge to the applicant. This is done to meet Federal, State and University requirements.
