The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from: $153,000 - $191,000

JOB SUMMARY:

This position reports to the Vice President - State Government Relations and is a trusted and integral resource to Avangrid's New York operations. Crucial to this role is the ability to lead a team in a fast-paced environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, and efficient, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Equally important is political and business acumen, expert level written and verbal communication skills, strong decision-making ability, and attention to detail. Leadership skills and the ability to balance internal and external priorities are critical to the success of this role. This position is responsible for leading all aspects of the Company's municipal government, community, and business relations activities.

MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Scope of work - range of responsibilities):

  • Collaborate with executive leadership and other subject matter experts within the Avangrid functional organization to develop and implement a strategic plan for municipal, community, and business relations to effect positive outcomes and achieve AVANGRID's objectives while maintaining positive relationships with external stakeholders and building our reputation in New York.
  • Manage implementation of stakeholder management strategy for business relations, ensuring customer satisfaction, a high touch experience, and a proactive approach to these critical accounts.
  • Work collaboratively with leadership in key business areas to develop and implement strategies to address business challenges that impact providing reliable, safe, and timely service to customers.
  • Manage and direct the Public Liaison Officer (PLO) team to ensure compliance with the Emergency Response Plan through training, developing, and updating job aids, conducting exercises, and ensuring all required outreach and regulatory requirements are completed.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and implement NYSEG and RG&E's Corporate Contributions and Sponsorships program in collaboration with the AVANGRID Foundation to maximize the benefits of integrated and aligned outreach efforts.
  • Direct Avangrid's volunteer efforts in New York through the development and implementation of innovative programs and approaches that build employee engagement to support Avangrid's volunteer goals and the communities served by NYSEG and RG&E.
  • Coach and develop team members to grow and hone the skills necessary to be highly effective in the work they do.
  • Hold team members accountable for business and individual goals via performance management, regular feedback and coaching, and role modeling leadership behaviors.
  • Partner with leadership in other Avangrid networks operating companies to create a consistent approach to municipal, community, and business relations understanding where local customization is required.
  • Identify and implement efficiency gains within the department that would have a positive impact on other business areas.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 10 years' relevant experience in municipal government, customer service, operations, or community relations.
  • Direct experience interacting with government, business, and community leaders.
  • Minimum of 8 years management or supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated success shown by progressively challenging roles.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in a related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of municipal government and political processes.
  • Knowledge of the electric and gas industry.

  • Excellent attention to detail and follow-up.
  • High emotional intelligence and relationship-building skills.
  • Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.
  • Team player with the ability to exercise good judgment in a rapidly changing and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Experience working in a utility environment with exposure to rates, tariffs, and gas and electric distribution systems.
  • Travel, approximately 50% based on location.
