About the Job:
The Department of Surgery at the University of Minnesota is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher to contribute to NIH-funded and other externally supported projects focused on developing novel cancer therapeutics that stimulate the antitumor immune response. Our research is particularly centered on colorectal cancer, leveraging organoid-based models and mouse tumor models to explore immune-stimulating therapies and their combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors. The successful candidate will have expertise in cancer immunology and therapeutic development, with the ability to design, execute, and analyze preclinical studies aimed at advancing new treatment strategies. This role offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a highly collaborative research team at the University of Minnesota, working at the forefront of cancer immunotherapy and translational oncology.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:
The successful candidate will contribute to the design, execution, and evaluation of cancer research studies, with a focus on:

1. Generating organoids and handling mouse models of cancer.
2. Development of novel cancer therapeutics to stimulate antitumor immune
responses.
3. Analysis of immunological effects and combination strategies with
immunotherapies, including immune checkpoint inhibitors.
4. Investigation of metabolic factors influencing cancer progression.
5. Imaging and tumor histology

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting in vitro and in vivo immunological analyses to evaluate therapeutic efficacy.
  • Designing and constructing experimental systems, including cloning, generation,
    amplification, and purification of therapeutic agents.
  • Utilizing molecular biology techniques for evaluating therapeutic candidates in preclinical models.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting research data.
  • Preparing reports, manuscripts, and presentations for publication and dissemination.
  • Actively engaging in collaborative research efforts within the lab and across interdisciplinary teams.

2. Development of research ideas, projects, and study protocols
Participate in weekly lab meeting. Participate in weekly one-on-one meeting with PI.
Generate relevant and novel research ideas for new projects

3. Prepare and Present Abstracts for Podium or Poster
Write abstracts for submission to annual scientific meetings.
Present accepted abstracts as podium or poster during scientific meetings

4. Manuscript writing and submission to scientific journals
Complete manuscripts and submit to peer-reviewed journals

Required:
  • PhD, MD, or equivalent degree in a relevant field.
  • Expertise in cancer research, tumor immunology, and mouse tumor models.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead scientific projects, both independently and as part
    of a collaborative team
  • Strong research skills, including planning, designing, and executing high-
    impact studies in oncology and immunotherapy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of
    publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at scientific conferences.

Preferred:
  • Experience in tumor immunology, organoid models, and cancer mouse
    models, including hands-on expertise in relevant imaging techniques.
  • Strong scientific writing skills, demonstrated by first-author publications in
    peer-reviewed journals.
