Veterinary Technician Assistant - Large Animal - Military Veterans

Clinical â" 75%
Assists clients and patients with admissions/discharges, assessment, work-up, etc.; prepares large animal patients for a variety of veterinary medical procedures including radiographic, surgery, and therio prep, catheterizations, venipunctures, vaccinations, foal and colic team assistance, administration of medications and treatments, preparation of pharmaceuticals,etc.
Perform prescribed treatments on hospitalized patients which may include but not be limited to: vaccinations, IV/IM/SQ injections, obtain fluid or tissue samples, perform biopsy techniques, administer medications, bandaging, triage of medical care, etc.
Employees in a CVT training program can perform invasive procedures under the direction of a DVM or CVT. May be entrusted to work independently depending on training and demonstrated skill level.
Maintains isolation and biosecurity protocols.
Barn upkeep and some maintenance.
Must be able to jog and lunge horses.

Customer Service â" 10%
Delivers outstanding customer service including (for example) greeting and receiving patients and clients in a caring and courteous manner, answering phone calls promptly, responding to clients, co-workers, and medical staff needs and requests, redirecting calls, etc.
Answers questions and explains or demonstrates procedures and equipment for clients, interns, senior veterinary students, and technician students.

Clerical â" 10%
Performs record-keeping tasks related to medical procedures, including recording of: procedures completed, supplies used, patient status, client communications, census information, process electronic lab and imaging requests, etc.
Responsible to ensure that all services and supplies are charged for according to hospital fee schedule.
Maintains a clean environment in hospital area and ensures that these areas are adequately ordered, stocked and that equipment is in working order.

Other Functions â" 5%
Other duties as assigned by Supervisor, Clinician, or Clinical Manager.

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications/Selection Criteria:
One year of post high school experience or education in veterinary assisting which includes: animal restraint, veterinary terminology, veterinary anatomy, patient first aid, and medication administration. Four years of horse handling and safety experience. Graduate of veterinary technician program. Certified veterinary technician with certification recognized in Minnesota. Problem solving skills, strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of veterinary medicine terminology, knowledge of proper restraint and comfort handling large animals. Flexibility to meet patient care needs. Proficient with PC and software.
