Summary:

The primary function of the Specialty Clinics Pediatric Oncology Nurse Coordinator is to provide nursing care in the clinical setting and to coordinate the comprehensive and complex care of the Pediatric Oncology patient, specifically the leukemia, lymphoma, solid tumor, testicular, brain, spinal cord tumors and benign tumors populations. This is primarily serving patients 0 21 years of age. The Registered Nurse will possess advanced levels of knowledge and experience with the complex physiology and pathology of pediatric oncology. The Registered Nurse will also display a comprehensive understanding of the unique nature of pediatric oncology medical and nursing care. Pediatric oncology is research based therefore involvement in the children Oncology Group is mandatory. Participation in evidenced based nursing research and presentations at the national level of the Association of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Nurse group is strongly encouraged annually. This position will collaborate and assist in leading the multi- disciplinary Oncology team. The Registered Nurse will deliver competent and evidenced based care to pediatric oncology patients and families according to their identified needs. Nursing care is based on the nursing process and augments the medical plan of treatment. The Registered Nurse will deliver care that is team oriented, collaborative, based on sound clinical judgment and evidence. Customer service excellence is an imperative part of this role, while advanced clinical thinking skills and appreciation for evidenced based practice are also vital. The role also includes components of community support in pediatric cancer awareness and recognition, as well as patient advocate and liaison to medical consultants. Inherent in this position is the ability to identify and supplement staff education regarding pediatric oncology disorders with current care and treatment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Nursing required

  • Prefer three to five years of pediatric oncology

  • Current permit or license to practice professional nursing in the state of Texas

  • CPR - BLS required, PALS certification within one year of hire

  • Advanced certification in pediatric oncology is required within two years of hire
