Berry Global in Winchester, VA is looking to add to our growing SBM Department. These positions operate SBM machines, run and inspect product, perform troubleshooting duties, as well as perform all changeovers associated with our orders (material, colorant, and tooling).
These positions train on First Shift (M-F 7 AM to 3 PM), but will be assigned to Second or Third Shift after training is complete. 2nd and 3rd Shifts offer a +$2/hour shift differential once assigned.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Start and stop machines to produce quality, rigid-plastic containers.
- Perform routine inspections, cleaning & lubricating and/or tightening of machine assembles.
- Perform product inspections using test equipment, statistical quality methods & visual inspection techniques.
- Pack product into boxes/cartons at designated production-line speeds according to specifications & stack packed cartons to build 4 ft. high units.
- Safely operate lift trucks to move materials.
- Perform as a responsible team member to maintain a clean, safe, and effective work environment.
- Operate machines, pull seepage, change materials, assist in changeovers and identify start and stop of out-of-spec production (heldware)
- Responsible for maintaining and adhering to established Good Manufacturing Procedures (GMP) and Safety Quality Foods (SQF) compliance requirements.
- Responsible for adhering to Food Safety Compliance.
- Respond to any emergency or potential emergency.
- Security diligence, including maintaining control of door accesses, preventing unauthorized entry to the facility by non-Berry employees and proper maintenance/security of Berry equipment and information.
- Constant vigilance and participation in GMP and SQF practices.
- Assist in the prevention of nonconforming product from being shipped to customers.
- Identify and record problems relating to product, process and quality systems.
- Initiate action to prevent occurrences of any non-conformity of product or quality systems.
- Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels.
- Suggest actions for continual improvement to products, processes or systems and very the implementation of solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS

- SBM experience is desired but not required, however we do require familiarity with Plastics Molding Operations.
- Mechanical aptitude and knowledge is critical for these roles.
- One to three years related experience and/or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units in decimals and fractions, with weight measurement, volume, and dimensions. Ability to understand Statistical Process Control charts and data.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Certified and trained in forklift operation
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
