WHY DO WE NEED YOU?
The Product Engineer is assigned product end uses, is knowledgeable in the markets served by those end uses and is a technical product and application specialist. He/she has a mastery of assigned end uses and is very knowledgeable of varying market conditions and requirements, trends, and relative strengths/weaknesses, business strategies, and market share of Saint-Gobain versus competitor products. He/she provides technical information, support and assistance to sales, training, R&D, manufacturing, other divisions, customers, and distributors for all matters relating to the product: design, specifications, quality, use, testing, marketing and promotion. He/she assumes responsibility for monitoring and assuring sales results at specific target accounts where his/her assigned end uses represent significant potential.
The Product Engineer works closely with both Product Management and R&D in developing and launching new products.
The Product Engineer monitors and determines the ability of Saint-Gobain products to satisfy customers' needs by acquiring, evaluating, and maintaining current technical and application information. He/she also monitors and determines the ability of our competitor's products to do the same, and he/she monitors the success of our products compared to those of our competitors. He/she keeps abreast of competitive product development and evaluates their technical significance in terms of impact on Saint-Gobain objectives and strategies. He/she is the key resource on such matters for the Director of Product Manager, Product Managers, Sales and Marketing and other personnel.
He/she is assigned projects by his/her Supervisor for improving the sales and market position. He/she will be part of a team focused on developing the position of Saint-Gobain products. These projects involve finding solutions to product problems; overcoming product weaknesses and making effective use of product strengths and improving present products and developing new products to meet changing customer requirements. An excellent ability to relate with customers and their business/application requirements is required.
In addition to these project assignments, the incumbent provides, on a daily basis, the technical help needed to solve customer and product problems as requested by customers, distributors, manufacturing, R&D, and field sales.
The incumbent spends up to 50% of his/her time in the field in the accomplishment of these responsibilities. While working in the field, the incumbent is often involved in second or third shift test work. While traveling, the incumbent interfaces with customer management, engineering, technical, and purchasing personnel, as well as with distributors and other Saint-Gobain personnel.
The incumbent works with a minimum of supervision. He/she is competent in planning and organizing his/her work activities. He/she is well motivated and overcomes problems as they arise. A high degree of self-discipline, self-motivation, and enthusiasm should be evident to all that work with him/her.
The position can based in Stephenville, TX or Watervliet, NY, dependent on candidate preference and/or geographic location.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?
- Analyze market requirements and competitive situations and provide technical application support and design expertise across several product lines in direct support of customers, as well as to support field sales and marketing initiatives.
- Provide project leadership to identify problems associated with the use and design of business products and formulate solutions in coordination with customers, outside vendors and manufacturing engineering in order to increase profitability for the business and satisfy customer demand.
- Monitor and assist sales to improve market share results for certain products at specific target accounts.
- Provide written materials to support the effective design and use of products manufacturing processing applications.
- Complete special projects as assigned by his/her Supervisor.
- The position requires a BS Degree in an engineering related discipline, with a minimum of 3 years' experience. Experience with Coated Abrasives is a plus.
- The incumbent must have a strong technical background and knowledge in mechanical properties. This must be coupled with a thorough knowledge of product and process capability, strong analytical skills, customer requirements, and product application.
- In addition, he/she should have a working knowledge of assigned end use areas and the competitive products in those areas, and familiarity with the sales role.
- He/she should strong communication skills and the ability to establish good working business/team relationships with contacts in the office, field, factory, and R&D.
- The incumbent is expected to be highly motivated, self-directed, and enthusiastic. He/she should be able to overcome problems without assistance. Microsoft Office skills required.

We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer potential candidates. Provided is the national pay range for this position which is $79,500 to $123,400 per year. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 10% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.
