The School of Music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Choral Music Education. We seek a colleague with experience working with students from diverse musical, social, and cultural experiences and backgrounds. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished teacher of P-12 and undergraduate and graduate students and have an active scholarly profile. We seek a skilled pedagogue and enthusiastic recruiter that prepares choral teachers for existing classrooms while also challenging and expanding the boundaries of choral music teaching. They will demonstrate an understanding of current issues in choral music education, a commitment to recruiting, and may have additional experience in at least one of the following areas:
School partnerships
Ensemble conducting
Community engagement
Participatory music-making beyond the Western European Classical Music Tradition
Student teaching supervision
Online teaching
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in music education; ABD considered with completion expected by start of appointment, August 1, 2025.
Three years of successful P-12 music teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
At least five years of successful P-12 music teaching experience.
Expertise in historical and contemporary approaches to choral teaching.
Experience supervising field experiences and student teaching.
Experience with teacher performance assessments such as edTPA.
Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the College/University level.
Experience successfully working with populations demographically and socioeconomically similar to the UNCG student body.
