The Business Segment Sustainable Energy Systems (SES) develops, manufactures, and sells innovative Hydrogen and Power-to-X systems, solutions and services based on the ELYZER portfolio. With this innovative electrochemical system, water is split into its components hydrogen and oxygen using the PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) and (green) electricity. The Lead Mechanical Engineer coordinates all mechanical engineering activities in the project and ensures the timely delivery of detailed layouts of electrolysis plants, steel structure designs, and piping routes. The preparation of specification documents for the manufacturing process and the supervision of the manufacturing activities are also part of the job. In addition, the Lead Mechanical Engineer reviews structural-mechanical simulations and stress analyses.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Coordinate all mechanical engineering tasks in R&D and customer projects.
- Contribute to negotiations with suppliers and customers.
- Plan and coordinate fabricators, steel structures, and piping designs.
- Prepare plant layouts, detailed installation plans, and specification documents for manufacturing and procurement.
- Support proposal preparations for competitive, high-quality customer-oriented bids for hydrogen generation plants.
- Execute design reviews, develop design guidelines, and implement continuous improvement measures.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or similar, with relevant professional experience.
- 10+ years of practical experience in 3D design, plant layouts, and piping design, with high expertise in 3D design tools (preferably NX).
- Good knowledge in structural-mechanical simulations, stress analyses, and manufacturing/assembly works.
- Experience in managing CAD data for large projects, data exchange between design tools, and coordinating small engineering/project teams.
- Strong communication skills, excellent organizational skills, and a good sense of humor.
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally, with business fluent English; German or Spanish language skills are a bonus.
Current or prior experience working with Siemens Energy customers, processes, and systems are preferred.
