Career Advisor - Military Veterans

Mitchell Hamline School of Law is seeking to hire a full-time Career Advisor. The Career Advisor is responsible for providing career counseling and advising to current students and alumni. Additionally, this position is also responsible for outreach with both students and the legal community coordinating and presenting learning and employment opportunities.
Essential Responsibilities:
Career Counseling and Advising
- Provide support and one-on-one counseling to caseload of law students regarding their career development and job search strategies. Stay up to date on the latest trends and developments in the legal industry to provide accurate and relevant advice to students.
- Assist students in exploring traditional legal and JD Advantage career opportunities and gaining relevant experience.
- Partner with students to develop job search strategies, polish application materials, develop and practice interview skills, formulate negotiation strategy and provide overall job application support.
- Develop and maintain job search resources and materials, such as tip sheets, job postings, and networking opportunities.
- Leverage 12twenty to track and log all engagement activities with students and employers, ensuring that records remain accurate and up to date.
- Use 12twenty to publish and approve job postings, coordinate programming and events, and capture data on event attendance.
- Provide input into the effectiveness of career counseling programs and services.
- Perform other projects and tasks as department needs require.
Caseload Outreach
- Engage in regular outreach with caseload to make students aware of opportunities and career development timelines.
- Track and document interactions with caseload and record students' experiential learning and employment opportunities, both during law school and post-graduation.
- Organize and conduct workshops and information sessions on career-related topics, such as job search techniques, resume writing, and interview skills to enhance the professional skills of students, preparing them for the competitive job market.
Employer Outreach
- Stay informed on employment opportunities and career paths to advise applicants effectively.
- Build and maintain relationships with potential employers.
- In collaboration and coordination with team members, actively develop and advise students regarding experiential learning opportunities.
- Coordinate with externship hosts to conduct externship vetting in a timely manner and maintain externship records.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree
- Preferred: Master's degree in Counseling, Higher Education or related field
Experience:
- Entry-level candidate will have 2 to 3 years of experience working in recruitment, career advising or development, student services, or academic advising.
Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal skills, especially those in the areas of collaboration, conflict resolution, problem solving and decision making; strong organization and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and constituents.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse student and alumni population.
- Ability to work well without close supervision.
- Strong general written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work occasional nights and weekends as required.
Salary range: $52,900 - $74,059 Annually

- Flexible work schedule, following the initial training period there is the opportunity to work remotely 1-2 days per week, this is dependent on needs of the department/school.
