Career Coach Hobart William Smith Colleges Location: Geneva, NY Open Date: Feb 07, 2025 Description An integral part of the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education, this position assists in providing career services to students and alumni. The Career Coach provides assistance to students through workshops, in-class presentations, and individual student appointments. This position also assists in development and maintenance of career information/exploration resources. The successful candidate will demonstrate collegiality and the ability to establish collaborative relationships within and beyond the Salisbury Center. The Salisbury Center is interested in candidates who have engaged in significant service towards increasing the participation of individuals from groups historically under-represented in higher education or in their field of study. Essential Responsibilities: Provide general career counseling for students with and without defined career goals primarily regarding self-assessment and career exploration. Assist with resume and cover letter writing as needed. Support industry specific career coaches as needed with interviewing techniques, job search strategies, internships/externships/community service, summer jobs, pre-professional and graduate school advising, and career resources. Assist students and alumni with career exploration resources. Manage caseload of students in Handshake and follow up with caseload to ensure engagement. Develop and conduct seminars and special presentations focused on further developing capabilities within our student body to make them more prepared for opportunities, including resume and cover letter writing, networking and interviewing techniques, job search strategies, summer jobs, internships and externships, etc. Sponsor outreach activities, including workshops and presentations in resident halls, classes and other campus locations, as well as with extracurricular organizations, academic departments, cultural programs, fraternities and other various campus populations. Assist with marketing efforts to promote and build programming. Contribute to the annual calendar of events for Career Services and the office newsletter. Assist with department activities and projects, including the winter break shadow program. Assist with the Career Network volunteer database and members. Provide outreach to all FSEM instructors and presentations in all FSEMs each fall to engage first year students. Provide Sophomore What Can I Do with this Major programming each spring semester. Other Information: This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, administrative hourly position. This position description is not all-inclusive as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. The hourly rate of this position is $25. Qualifications Preferred Master's degree in Counseling, Education; or the equivalent and demonstrate an interest and experience working with a diverse college student population. A self-motivated, self-directed commitment to high professional ideals; excellent oral and written communication skills. Two plus years of professional experience in career development and/or graduate or professional school advising, or the equivalent. Must be a versatile team player who thrives on student interaction and excels in relationship-building. Must have an understanding and appreciation of liberal arts with special appreciation for post-graduate study options. Must also understand and appreciate growing role technology plays in the delivery of Career Services.
