Senior Supplier Development Engineer- Hybrid - Military Veterans

DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented Senior Supplier Development Engineer to join our team specializing in Quality for Cummins Inc. in Troy, MI.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:





  1. Relationship Building : Strengthening connections with external suppliers, customers, and internal stakeholders to enhance quality and business outcomes.


  2. Supplier Selection Support : Assisting in the cross-functional process of selecting suppliers for various components.


  3. Manufacturing Collaboration : Working with external suppliers to ensure their manufacturing processes meet engineering standards and customer requirements.


  4. Quality Planning : Utilizing APQP processes, AIAG tools, and Cummins specialty tools to develop zero-defect components within the supply base.


  5. Continuous Improvement : Contributing to product and process improvement projects using methodologies like lean and six-sigma.


  6. Supplier Audits : Conducting audits to mitigate risks, ensure supplier readiness, and improve supplier performance.


  7. Quality Improvement Plans : Supporting initiatives to enhance supplier performance and address quality issues.


  8. Problem Resolution : Leading root cause analysis, developing corrective actions, and verifying their effectiveness to resolve supplier-related quality challenges.




RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:





  1. Technical Interpretation Skills : Ability to apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles and Engineering Standards to interpret technical requirements and improve product design.


  2. Manufacturing Process Design Expertise : Knowledge of manufacturing technology to design processes that consistently meet technical and customer requirements.


  3. Process Validation Proficiency : Use of core automotive tools (DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plan, SPC, MSA, Source Release, and PPAP) to validate manufacturing processes.


  4. Quality Standards Knowledge : Understanding of quality standards like ISO9001:2015 and IATF16949 to develop compliant procedures and processes.


  5. Statistical Analysis Skills : Application of statistical tools to influence decision-making and drive process improvements.


  6. Supplier Quality Project Management : Ability to apply APQP skills to develop and execute quality plans, facilitating cross-functional collaboration with external suppliers.




QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Licenses, Certifications:





  • College, university, or equivalent degree in Engineering or a related technical or scientific subject required


  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.




Experience:





  • Preferably, a minimum of 3 years experience in a Manufacturing or Engineering role in the automotive industry, or a similarly regulated industry.
