Project Manager - Air and Wastewater Scientific Program - Military Veterans

Job Summary:
The successful candidate for this role will focus on improving global public health through innovative air and wastewater pathogen surveillance technologies. As a Project Manager, this person will coordinate projects led by Dave and Shelby O'Connors' Labs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. These projects span multiple institutions across the US and the globe. They will build and maintain partnerships with academic and private industry colleagues to ensure the smooth execution of projects and transparent reporting of outcomes.
Responsibilities: Manages a single project from start to finish or one phase of a large project under limited supervision.

  • 40% Creates a project plan, monitors progress and performance against the project plan, and identifies, resolves, or escalates risks and issues
  • 5% Manages the activities of outside contractors to ensure they are integrated into the project and that the organization receives satisfactory standards of service
  • 25% Facilitates the estimation of project costs, resources, and time required to complete the assigned phase of a project and monitors activities, negotiates for resources, and assigns tasks to ensure these targets are met. Follows established change control processes if targets can no longer be met
  • 20% Prepares regular reports to communicate the status of the project within and beyond the project team
  • 10% Sets priorities, allocates tasks, and collaborates with project staff to meet project targets and milestones

In public health, environmental science, microbiology, business, or a related field
Qualifications:
Project manager qualifications:
-2+ years of project management experience, preferably in research or public health sectors
-2+ stewater and air monitoring data to inform public health.
-Demonstrated successful management of programs with large budgets (i.e., >$20 million)
-Evidence of scientific publications relevant to environmental monitoring for pathogens
-Evidence of strong organizational and communication skills to manage complex, multi-stakeholder projects
-Evidence of successfully negotiating agreements between academic, industry, and governmental stakeholders
-Experience working with international organizations and navigating foreign regulatory requirements
-Excellent communication skills and demonstrated experience writing reports for stakeholders
-Problem-solving skills needed to navigate complex unpredictable challenges
Work Type:
Part Time: 50% - 75%

It is anticipated this position will be remote and requires work be performed at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Minimum $65,449 ANNUAL (12 months)
