The Cloud Engineer is a key member of the USSPACECOM J6 team, responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud infrastructure and on-premises virtual machine provisioning. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure system scalability, security, and efficiency. The Cloud Engineer will contribute to planning, deploying, and optimizing cloud solutions that support organizational applications and services.
Key Responsibilities:
Cloud Infrastructure Design & Deployment
- Collaborate with software engineers and architects to design and implement cloud-based solutions that meet performance, scalability, and security requirements.
- Evaluate and recommend cloud service providers (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud, Oracle) based on organizational needs.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible for automated and repeatable deployments.
- Manage and configure cloud resources, including virtual machines, containers, databases, and networking components.
- Manage and configure the Nutanix hypervisor, including virtual machines, containers, databases, and networking components.
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions to ensure system health and performance.
- Troubleshoot incidents, identify performance bottlenecks, and optimize system resources.
- Experience with: SteelCloud, Microsoft Config Manager, Red Hat / Red Hat Satellite, SQL Server, and Windows 11 / Windows Server OS
- Implement and maintain security best practices to protect cloud infrastructure and data.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, PCI DSS).
- Conduct security assessments and vulnerability scans, addressing identified issues promptly.
- Develop and maintain automated deployment pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or CircleCI.
- Implement Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) practices to streamline software delivery.
- Work with development teams to understand application requirements and optimize cloud architecture.
- Provide technical expertise, guidance, and support to cross-functional teams.
- Document architecture designs, deployment processes, and troubleshooting guides.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 5+ years related experience
- Active secret security clearance with ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
- Proven experience designing, implementing, and managing cloud solutions (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud, Oracle preferred) for both Windows and Linux.
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Ansible.
- Strong understanding of networking principles, security practices, and cloud architecture patterns.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration platforms like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with CI/CD methodologies.
- Scripting & programming skills (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell).
- Relevant cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect) are a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues in dynamic environments.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
- DoD 8570 Approved IAT Level II Certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+ or equivalent).

Salary Range - Colorado: $120,000-$140,000
