Salary: $90,000.00 to $95,000.00 Annually (salary commensurate with education and experience)

General Statement of Duties:

Under the direction of the Provost, but also receiving direction from the Associate Provost, the Director provides leadership and coordination for institutional efforts to support the growth and professional development of faculty across all dimensions of their professional life, including excellence in teaching and learning, scholarship and research, excellence and effectiveness in advising, and learning outcomes assessment. Working collaboratively across divisions and departments, and particularly in consultation with faculty affiliated with the Faculty Center, the Director develops and organizes professional development opportunities grounded in the best practices and proven theoretical frameworks, including adult learning theory, digital literacy, and culturally responsive teaching, to support faculty in executing the academic mission of the institution. The Director will also coordinate professional development opportunities that support the work of librarians and academic staff. Additionally, the Director will coordinate and support the activities of the Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity.

Essential:

  • Provide leadership and vision to offering an effective program of professional development opportunities for faculty, librarians, and academic staff.
  • Create supports and processes for productive pedological experimentation.
  • Foster strong relationships with key institutions, individuals, community colleges, and other external collaborators to enhance the University's impact to the larger community.
  • Works collaboratively with faculty, administration, and departments across the University to develop and support effective, student-centered teaching strategies.
  • Work with the appropriate institutional stakeholders to support piloting and when appropriate the implementation of new technology to execute the academic mission of Westfield State, in particular, to improve and assess student learning outcomes.
  • Develop and deliver professional development opportunities for faculty, librarians, and academic staff on emerging trends in higher education that are directly relevant to the academic enterprise.
  • Coordinates and facilitates events around teaching and learning for part-time and full-time faculty, as well as librarians and academic staff.
  • Support and manage the activities of the Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (CURCA), including taking a leadership role in the organization and execution of the CURCA sponsored celebration events and in the disbursement of CURCA funds to students and faculty.
  • Manages the budget(s) under the purview of the Faculty Center.

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Education, Curriculum Development, Instructional Technology, or a related field.
  • Record of achievement in leading the design, development, delivery, and adoption of innovative teaching and learning programs, technologies, and practices.
  • Five plus years of successful teaching and administrative experience preferably in higher education.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders within a unionized campus environment.
  • Appreciation for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, and ideological backgrounds and abilities.
  • Knowledge of contemporary evidence-based practices, tools and technology in the development of new methods and procedures in instructional design.
  • Skills in analyzing problems, identifying alternative solutions, projecting consequences of proposed actions, and making recommendations in support of institutional priorities.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills and the ability to work with faculty, administration, and staff at all levels.
  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, communication, and organizational skills.

Salary:

Salaries for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining agreements as well as state policies. State job specifications may be found on the Department of Higher Education's webpage .
