Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Developer Engineer to join our innovative team. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a novel product designed to overlay and assign ownership of downtime across our solar enterprise. This is an exciting opportunity to work with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and IT, to develop a system similar to our existing product developed for Wind. This role will also involve travel (less than 25%) and require delivering executive-level report outs to business unit leaders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement a novel product for tracking and assigning ownership of downtime across the solar enterprise.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and IT teams to gather requirements, ensure alignment, and integrate functionalities with existing systems.
  • Utilize advanced programming skills to develop robust, scalable, and efficient software solutions.
  • Create detailed project plans, timelines, and milestones to ensure timely delivery and successful product deployment.
  • Conduct thorough testing and validation of developed software to ensure it meets defined standards and requirements.
  • Prepare and present detailed project reports, status updates, and technical documents to business unit executives and stakeholders.
  • Provide training and support to operational teams to ensure effective implementation and usage of the new product.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices to continuously enhance the product and related processes.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements throughout the development process.
  • Travel to various sites, both domestic and international, as required (< 25%) for project coordination, implementation, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing innovative products within the renewable energy sector, preferably in solar or wind.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Java, Python, and SQL.
  • Familiarity with Apache Spark
  • Familiarity with developing for cloud-based applications
  • Excellent understanding of software development lifecycle, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver high-quality results within defined timelines.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, capable of interacting with executive-level stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with renewable energy systems, particularly solar energy.
  • Knowledge of downtime tracking and asset management systems.
  • Familiarity with data analytics and visualization tools.
  • Certification in Project Management (PMP) or Agile methodologies (Scrum Master, Product Owner).


Job Overview

This position writes and tests software to aid in development and support of products. Individuals in this role work with Technical Leads on software system architecture and service design and typically leads a module in the system. This position participates in required product development process ceremonies. Employees in this role are responsible for writing and refining technical requirements and technical design documentation.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Codes in multiple languages in support of software products and the development of software products
  • Conducts system testing and codes unit tests and support features
  • Documents technical requirement and other technical documentation
  • Works with product team to refine product requirements
  • Collaborates on high level software design projects and software system architecture and creates effective component level architectures
  • Leads software module construction from architecture and design to implementation and may lead a small team of engineers in building the module
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Experience: 7+ years
