SALARY RANGE: The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from $122,699 to $153,374
Job Summary
The Interconnections Manager is responsible for leading a team that evaluates the technical feasibility of interconnecting new renewable energy projects and customer load requests to the electric grid. This role involves managing the interconnection process as well as overseeing the performance of system planning studies to ensure regulatory compliance and the maintenance of a reliable electric grid. The Interconnections Manager will coordinate with internal engineering and project development teams, as well as external regulatory bodies to ensure a smooth and efficient interconnection process.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Management: Oversee the interconnection process from initial feasibility to the commencement of project execution, ensuring that internal processes are efficient in supporting the proposed deadlines and budget constraints.
- Technical Expertise: Provide technical guidance on transmission and distribution system studies, including power flow analysis (voltage and thermal), short circuit analysis, and stability studies to ensure the grid can reliably accommodate renewable energy resources and new load interconnects. Support study scoping and completion of complex interconnection studies.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of engineers providing guidance and support to ensure their success.
- Customer Collaboration: Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and renewable energy developers, providing clear communication and support throughout the interconnection process.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all interconnection activities comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including those related to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC).
- Internal & External Coordination: Coordinate with internal teams, such as system operations, key accounts, substation engineering, transmission planning, and distribution planning to promote successful project implementation. Participate and coordinate involvement in NYISO and Joint Utility working groups to ensure compliance with tariffs and procedures and identify and implement strategies to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the interconnection process. Coordinate with Investment Planning to support cost allocation determinations, when applicable.
- Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve the internal interconnection process to streamline activities, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.
Required Qualifications
- BSEE /Degree in Electrical Engineering required. Candidates from other engineering disciplines may be considered depending on relevant work experience
- 7+ years (Industry related experience) with the ability to demonstrate strong leadership skills, prior direct supervisory experience preferred
- Practical Engineering Experience/Application: Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Construction (e.g. field experience, standardization, developing the business case and defending in front of stakeholders)
- Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment: Local, State and Federal Regulatory Standards and Requirements (Tariff 119 and 19, NERC, NPCC, NYISO, etc.)
- Power System Studies - Knowledge & Interpretation of Study Assumptions and Results (e.g., Comprehensive Area Studies, Power Flow, DER, Voltage, Contingency, Stability, Power Factor Correction, Short Circuit, EMT, Reliability, Capacity, etc.)
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively articulate complex concepts to various stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong preference given to applicants with advanced degrees or certifications (e.g. MSEE, PE, etc.)
- Software Proficiency - Power System Analytics: (e.g. CYME, PSSE, ASPEN, etc.)
