This opportunity will be approximately 2 months in duration Department: Cancer Shared Services The Hospital Assistant III plays a vital role in patient care, working under the guidance of the Administrative Nurse Manager and Medical Assistant Supervisor. This individual assists in clinical procedures, patient support, and administrative duties to ensure seamless operations across various Cancer Center specialty practices. This position requires flexibility, clinical knowledge, and a commitment to excellence in patient care and service. The Hospital Assistant III will be responsible for direct patient interactions, laboratory support, and adherence to UCSF's high standards of safety, infection control, and professionalism. Key Responsibilities: Clinical & Patient Care Obtain and document vital signs, patient histories, and chief complaints. Assist with patient preparation for exams and procedures. Perform sterile processing procedures and ensure compliance with infection control protocols. Support complex medical procedures such as Laser, TRUS, Colposcopy, Anoscopy, and IRC (training provided). Provide chaperone services as needed. Transport patients and facilitate interpreter services when necessary. Perform Point of Care Testing, including EKGs and specimen collection. Maintain and update medical records using Electronic Health Record (APEX). Obtain insurance authorizations for medications and procedures. Coordinate referrals and scheduling for follow-up care. Clinic Operations & Team Collaboration Assist with workflow and patient flow management. Notify providers of delays and communicate with patients regarding wait times. Ensure compliance with JCAHO/Title 22 regulations and UCSF's Living PRIDE Service Excellence Standards. Act as a liaison between patients, providers, and clinical staff to enhance the patient experience. Document and escalate any concerns regarding patient care, safety, or operational issues. Administrative & Facility Maintenance Maintain clean and well-stocked exam rooms and supply areas. Order and manage medical supplies and lab equipment. Participate in Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives such as patient wait-time studies and data collection. Maintain logs for temperature, crash cart, and disaster cabinet. Assist with scheduling, medical record updates, and patient communications. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
