Adjunct Instructor - BXA Programs | Carnegie Mellon University - Military Veterans

The BXA Intercollege Degree Programs at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) seek a dynamic, experienced, and creative instructor to teach our spring 2021 BXA Seminar III, beginning February 1 through May. This course offers an opportunity for BXA juniors to develop their intellectual practice as integrated artists and scholars, and to further develop a critical vocabulary for that work in anticipation of their production of a two-semester senior project such as the BXA Capstone. The BXA Seminar III engages BXA juniors in examination of critical theory, the structure of disciplinary knowledge, interdisciplinary approaches and methods, and the purpose, categories, and components of research. This course will be taught entirely online in Spring 2021, with accommodations for both synchronous and asynchronous attendance.  The BXA Intercollege Degree Programs are unique to CMU and they provide students with the opportunity to integrate training in a creative field with rigorous academic coursework. BXA students have one concentration in the College of Fine Arts (Architecture, Art, Design, Drama, or Music) and an academic concentration in Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Science, Mellon College of Science or the School of Computer Science. BXA students are focused, motivated, and innovative; our advising is intended to help them navigate the complexities of this integrated curriculum and to open a path for their creative and academic endeavors.  More information about the BXA Programs may be found at:  www.cmu.edu/interdisciplinary/ The ideal candidate for this position will have extensive undergraduate teaching experience, especially in a creative field, along with a strong academic background. Experience with creative and arts-based research is preferred, as well as strong skills in teaching writing and verbal communication. Understanding of the experiences of a varied and diverse undergraduate population, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA, and first-gen students, is essential.
