Lab Assistant II Job ID: Location: Main Campus - UCR Schedule: 8AM - 5PM Category: Science and Research Salary: $46,166 - $54,392 Full/Part Time: Full-time(100%) Organization: School of Medicine Department: Monica Carson Application Deadline: Open Until Filled Position Information: The Division of Biomedical Sciences at the UCR School of Medicine has a rich tradition of high-impact research on medically relevant topics, student-centered teaching excellence and a service within the academic community. Under general supervision from the PI, the incumbent will assist in projects related to infection and inflammatory diseases in mouse model and human primary blood cells. Key duties will be maintaining mouse colonies, maintaining parasite life cycle, genotyping, immune assays (immunofluorescent staining), macrophage culture, general lab maintenance. The full salary range for the Lab Assistant II is $22.11 - $26.05 hourly. However, the expected pay scale is up to $23.87 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements. Requirements: Requirements Educational Requirements Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma. Required Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Neuroscience or related science areas. Preferred Experience Requirements Two years of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences and one year of laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Previous experience working with animals (i.e. mice) in a research setting. Preferred Techniques in immunology and microscopy. Preferred Minimum Requirements Ability to perform immunohistochemistry. Be able to repeat and demonstrate routine lab techniques to undergraduates. Working knowledge of principles of chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics and cell biology. Demonstrated ability to learn new areas of scientific and technical knowledge by reading the scientific literature, instruction manuals, and textbooks, and by attending research and professional seminars. Ability to work independently, skill in organization and attention to detail and strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English. Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory techniques. Demonstrated knowledge of Windows and Macintosh computer platforms. Ability to make solutions, trouble shoot and think through laboratory techniques. Preferred Qualifications Working knowledge of principles of chemistry, biochemistry, molecular and cell biology. Under supervision, incumbents perform one or more standard repetitive laboratory and/or field experimental procedures that require technical scientific knowledge and skills, which might be expected from incumbents at the college 'lower division' level or from incumbents who have acquired equivalent knowledge, and skills through experience. Key Responsibilities: Key Responsibilities DescriptionPercent Time Maintain animal colony and assist with experiments, including: - Organize and keep laboratory animal colony. - Assist with DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and other diagnostic assays. - Assist with data analysis and database updates as needed for the operations of the laboratory. - Assist with laboratory experiments using a variety of genetic, molecular and biochemical approaches, incl.
