Position Overview:
The salary for this position is $90,000. This position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan .

The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis seeks highly motivated master's-degree or doctorally prepared early-career, advanced practice providers to serve in a unique role that integrates a transition-to-practice clinical experience with clinical teaching activities in a structured, guided learning environment.

Full-time, 12-month positions at the instructor rank in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor (HSCP) Series are available at UC Davis Health, which is located on a modern, 140-acre campus in Sacramento, California. The Sacramento campus is home to the School of Nursing, School of Medicine, UC Davis Medical Center (including a level-I trauma center and burn unit, and a full range of outpatient services), a fully accredited children's hospital, and an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center. Practice locations are throughout UC Davis Health.

Currently offered is the APP Fellowship specialty tract: Trauma Surgery, which will accept Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP), Physician Assistants. National certification required upon selection. This is a limited 12-month engagement. Fellowship: Trauma Surgery - Clinical Instructors must graduate within 18 months of the start of the program (nurse practitioner or physician assistant program completion cannot be prior to July 1, 2024).

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The APP Trauma Surgery Fellowship - Health Sciences Clinical Instructor participates in a structured, mentored program to develop advanced clinical knowledge, skills, professional behaviors, and practice management for APP Fellowship specialty track providers. The focus of the fellowship is on enhancing advanced clinical knowledge and proficiency, gaining practice management expertise, and exposure to clinical teaching skills. This appointment employs a practice-based environment to prepare APPs for independent clinical practice as well as building skills such as those required for a clinical preceptor, clinical instructor or clinician educator.

TEACHING RESPONSIBLITIES:
As part of this experience and with guidance from experienced faculty and clinicians, the APP Fellowship - Health Sciences Clinical Instructor is limited to one clinical education activity (if appropriate) for students, nursing staff, or peers, and participates in at least one of the following activities: precepting a nurse practitioner (NP) or physician assistant (PA) student, providing lectures to NP and PA students, co-leading clinical skill labs or facilitating small groups during simulations or case discussions. Teaching activities could also include providing a lecture to students or peers, teaching clinical procedures, providing feedback or assisting with training.

The APP Fellowship - Health Sciences Clinical Instructor is also involved in a limited scholarly activity and limited committee service commensurate with this position.

CRITERIA:
Candidates must have graduated from an accredited APP program within 18 months from the start of the program (graduation date no earlier than July 1, 2024). Candidates must be fully licensed as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the state of California by the start of the program, Jan. 1.

Successful candidates demonstrate excellent clinical and communication skills and may have experience or express a goal of clinical teaching. A candidate for appointment in the HSCP Series is evaluated by the following criteria, which is appropriately weighted according to the primary emphasis on clinical and clinically relevant teaching and patient care services. The five criteria areas are:

  1. Professional clinical competence and experience
  2. Teaching
  3. Scholarly or creative activity
  4. University and public service
  5. Experiences with or contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP) or Physician Assistant program with an MS, MSN, DNP or PA within 18 months of the start of the program (APP program completion cannot be prior to July 1, 2024). Master's-degree or doctorally prepared applicants with a postgraduate nurse practitioner or physician assistant certificate are eligible.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Successful candidates must obtain the following items by the due dates listed on the UCD Advanced Practice website (see checklists):

  1. NP: Current California registered nurse, nurse practitioner, and drug/device furnishing licenses from the California BRN without restrictions OR PA: Current California physician assistant license without restrictions
  2. Completion of the schedule II opiate prescribing course in preparation for DEA license.
  3. National Board Certification.
  4. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  5. Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
  6. Current Advanced Pediatric Life Support (PALS) Certification.
  7. Preferred current Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Certification.

APP Fellowship: will provide clinical services within UC Davis Health in the service they are selected for in addition to off-service rotations per individual program approximately 70% of the time. The remaining 30% is comprised of time dedicated to professional development.

Salary is funded for one year by UC Davis Health Patient Care Services. The university offers a comprehensive benefits package (see School of Nursing compensation plan).
