Job Overview
As the Associate Director of the Counseling Center at the University of Cincinnati, you will manage daily administration under the supervision of a designated administrator. The Center's primary functions include training psychology professionals, offering psychological services to students, and fostering a supportive community for student well-being.
This role carries key administrative responsibilities, acting as the backup administrator to the Director. You will create job descriptions, make hiring decisions, and conduct annual performance reviews for CAPS staff. Collaborating with the Director, you will be fully responsible for the clinical operation of CAPS, including setting and updating clinical policies and procedures, providing guidance to clinicians, and managing client assignments.
You will provide clinical supervision to staff before their licensure, create coverage plans for the center, develop strategies for clinical services, and oversee the reception area's clinical functions. You will manage individual & group services, assessments, ARISE, Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) programs, and the Care Management Team (CMT). Additionally, you will provide direct counseling, crisis intervention, and outreach services to students. Working with the Director, Associate Director of Clinical Services, and Assistant Director of Training, you will develop and implement policies consistent with institutional needs and ethical professional practice.
Essential Functions
• Responsible for the overall direction of the Counseling Center.
• Prepare, submit and administer the departmental annual budget, as well as authorize and approve expenditures, allocation of funds, and hiring process.
• Provide support of the American Psychological Association (APA) Accredited Internship Training Program.
• Providing culturally informed direct clinical services, including case management, and crisis counseling.
• Responsible for the overall direction of the Counseling Center.

• Demonstrated commitment, skills and experience in equity and inclusion programming and clinical experience working with traditionally underserved or marginalized populations
• Using best practices and evidence-based research to ensure high quality care for culturally diverse individuals and groups.
• Develop and maintain strong communication with all CAPS Staff to build a community of equity, inclusion and excellence.
• Serving as a resource for equity and inclusion work within UC CAPS and the greater UC community in ongoing outreach efforts.
•Provide clinical supervision for graduate trainees.
• Interaction with other University personnel as needed.
Required Education
Master's Degree in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, or Clinical Psychology
Required Trainings/Certifications
- Must be licensed or licensed eligible as a social worker, marriage and family therapist, or clinical counselor in the State of Ohio.
- License must be achieved within six (6) months of date of employment.
Required Experience
Five (5) years of clinical experience post degree, with two (2) years in college counseling, with demonstrated two (2) years evidence of increasing supervisory and administrative responsibilities over time.
Additional Qualifications Considered
• Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Doctorate of Psychology (Psy.D.) or Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) from an accredited university.
• Earned doctorate in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA accredited program, and Completed APA Accredited internship.
• Commitment to Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity within an organization, team, and/or campus environment
• Experience in Higher Education at a College Counseling Center • Knowledge of some electronic health record programs
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
