Title: Assistant Professor - Physics

General Summary: The Physics Faculty is a creative, knowledgeable and flexible individual who will develop and teach courses in Physics (both Algebra and Calculus based) and related disciplines to a diverse student body within the STEM division. The faculty will teach project based courses to both liberal arts and STEM students. The faculty member will work with STEM division staff, administration and faculty to develop student learning outcomes and assessment strategies, and will participate in college service and student advisement. The successful candidate will be committed to inclusive excellence and diversity, and continuous professional improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach courses in Physics on all MCC campuses.
  • Participate in ongoing curriculum review, assessment, and development.
  • Develop instructional material consistent with course, program and institutional student learning outcomes and apply innovative instructional approaches, in order to achieve student learning outcomes.
  • Develop and apply instructional methods that engage a diverse student body of varying learning styles and abilities, and promote critical thinking and other employability skills.
  • Integrate available science instrumentation and computer-based experiments into the classroom
  • Develop and apply technology in and out of the classroom, including use of the BlackBoard Learning Management System for web-based, hybrid, or computer-enhanced classes.
  • Develop and apply assessment strategies that maximize the learning process and effectively measure student learning outcomes.
  • Incorporate high impact practices such as learning communities, undergraduate research, service learning and collaborative projects as part of pedagogical practices.
  • Support and foster a culture of civic learning and community engagement.
  • Participate in division and college committees and activities.
  • Provide developmental advising to students in STEM disciplines to help students assess their skills, interests and aptitudes; identify realistic career goals and develop an educational plan.


Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Physics and a Master's Degree in a related discipline.
  • Successful teaching experience, and a demonstrated ability to teach Physics
  • Experience in the organization and management of the laboratory environment.
  • Knowledge of outcomes assessment and assessment techniques in education.
  • Ability to apply innovative instructional approaches, in order to achieve stated course objectives and student learning outcomes.
  • Commitment to continuous professional improvement.
  • Ability to collaborate and work collegially with faculty from all disciplines.
  • A demonstrated interest in the use of inclusive pedagogies and high impact practices to foster student success and close achievement gaps
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Successful teaching at a community college
  • Proficiency in the Blackboard Learning Management System to develop and implement online courses
  • Experience developing academic courses and curriculum
  • Ph.D. in Physics, or equivalent
  • Knowledge of and commitment to Community College Academic Programs, services and culture
  • Evidence of successful experience with a variety of instructional methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop or apply innovative student centered instructional approaches.
  • Student advising experience
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement high impact practices such as learning communities, undergraduate research, service learning/civic engagement and collaborative projects as part of pedagogical practices.
  • Experience with STEM grant initiatives
  • Bilingual skills a plus

Please note, the faculty rank of Assistant Professor may be subject to change in accordance with Article XVII of the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Salary Range: $58,438 is the starting salary for Column B under the MCCC 2025 Salary Grids for an Assistant Professor with a Master's Degree; actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience.
