The School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) at the University of Michigan seeks a candidate for a part-time LEO Lecturer Intermittent position to teach/advise one of our Master's Projects.

This is a non-tenure track position and the selected candidate will ideally continue to advise the project for Winter B 2025, Fall 2025, and Winter 2026. The appointment effort will be 6% in Winter B 2025, and then 3% in Fall 2025 and Winter 2026.

SEAS? client-based master's project is an interdisciplinary problem-solving research endeavor conducted by a team of students and a faculty mentor. Projects prepare students to become leaders in sustainability by working with real-world clients on projects that make an impact locally, nationally, or around the globe. Master's projects provide students with the kind of experiences that prepare them for similar situations in the workplace. For clients, projects provide useful products and solutions to complex environmental issues.

Instructors are expected to facilitate and support all aspects of students Master's Project experience to ensure their ultimate success - from engaging with students and clients to formulate and refine the challenge/research questions students will answer, deciding on appropriate methods including the development of data collection instruments and analysis as well a guiding the writing of final reports and development of other deliverables including presentations. Master's Project advisors are also expected to be able to help students develop professional skills and ultimately support students in their search for employment including via letters of reference. Given the real-world nature of the projects, Master's Project advisors often have to assist students with addressing a range of conflicts, including among group members and with clients. Instructors are expected to meet with students in-person on average on a weekly basis and/or as needed.
  • Accredited MS (PhD preferred) degree in an environmental, social science, or equivalent field and/or 5 years of professional leadership/work experience focused on addressing interdisciplinary environmental and/or sustainability challenges.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring, in ways consistent with diversity equity, and inclusion principles.
  • Minimum of one year of instructional experience in a higher education setting.
  • Minimum of three years of work experience in management, consulting, or environmental sciences.
