The Associate Director for Inclusive Excellence (Planning) reports to the Vice President of Inclusive Excellence and Equity/Chief Diversity Officer and serves as the liaison with the campus vendor hired to collect, compile, analyze, and interpret employee data for creation and update of SUNY affirmative action, State, and Federal compliance reports. The Associate Director is responsible for composing narrative material from these compliance reports and sharing across the campus community.

The Associate Director will work with colleges, academic and administrative departments regarding recruitment efforts, including developing written materials to publicize affirmative action policies and objectives as they relate to the University's Strategic Plan priorities and goals. The Associate Director develops and conducts routine Inclusive Search Workshops and other educational training sessions associated with mitigating bias in recruitment hiring process.

The Associate Director will be involved in certain administrative activities associated with the university's participation in SUNY Administration priorities, particularly as relates to faculty diversity initiatives, such as PRODiG.

The Associate Director will also oversee certain planning and execution of events related to inclusive excellence and campus climate, including strategy, collaborating with campus partners to determine event's goals and target audience, and managing the budget and associated logistics associated with such events, including vendor engagement.

The Associate Director may also serve as the immediate and confidential designee representing the office at agency-level meetings and committees.

Essential Functions:

  • Support UAlbany strategic plan goals and priorities related to inclusive excellence, including faculty diversity and federal and state compliance associated with Title VI and engagement with campus stakeholders
    • Develop strategies to attract diverse faculty candidates through targeted outreach to underrepresented groups.
    • Review faculty job postings to ensure inclusive language and criteria.
    • Conduct training on Inclusive Search Process for search committees.
    • Partner with academic departments to identify areas for faculty diversity improvement.
    • Monitor programs and activities for potential Title VI discrimination based on national origin.
    • Maintain documentation related to Title VI compliance efforts.
    • Advocate for changes to policies that may unintentionally create barriers for underrepresented groups.
    • Review documentation associated with search waiver requests.
  • Vendor engagement associated with report analysis and integration of report data into recruitment strategy and action
    • Serve as the liaison with the vendor chosen to develop required/mandated Federal and State reports and to ensure they are completed in a timely fashion.
    • Track data on faculty and staff demographics to identify areas for improvement.
    • Preparing reports for leadership on progress towards diversity goals.
    • Assemble, review and transmit recruitment, hiring, and other data necessary for reporting and supporting external funding and grant opportunities.
    • Ensure compliance with SUNY Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Policy.
    • Working knowledge of Affirmative Action, to support the aims of the university's Affirmative Action Plan.
    • Collaborate with other stakeholders (including Research Foundation) to complete similar duties for Research Foundation position searches and Affirmative Action compliance activities, including vendor engagement.
  • Events and activities associated with the university's inclusive excellence priorities
    • Coordinate logistics and execution of DEI-related events and other initiatives for students, staff, and faculty including pre-event planning, budgeting, coordination of communications and marketing efforts, interactions with key stakeholders, event tracking, and reporting.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships:
  • Reports to Vice President of Inclusive Excellence and Equity
  • May supervise employees as assigned

Job Requirements:
  • Excellent verbal communications skills and ability to facilitate communication within and outside the office.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to lead and conduct both in-person and virtual presentations.
  • Demonstrative effective problem-solving skills.
  • Evidence of strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work independently and in as part of a collaborative team.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop and equitable relationships within a diverse work population/campus community.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion and belonging relative to their role.


Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in developing and implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
  • Previous experience creating and managing programs that promote inclusivity.
  • Quantitative and qualitative research skills to effectively analyze vendor reports and use the data to inform and improve recruitment strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and leading special events.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Knowledge of and involvement with the University at Albany.
  • Supervisory experience.

Working Environment:
  • Typical office environment
  • Occasional nighttime or weekend representing office at various University events.
  • The Office of Diversity and Inclusion engages and supports students, faculty and staff; this is an in-person role.


Additional Information:

Professional Rank and Salary Grade: Assistant Director of Affirmative Action, Management Confidential (MP); $75,000 - 82,000.
