Assistant Director of Residential Life - Military Veterans

The Residential Life and Housing department at the College of Saint Benedict invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), benefit eligible position of Assistant Director of Residential Life.

The Assistant Director of Residential Life at the College of Saint Benedict oversees housing operations to support the four-year residential experience. This includes managing room assignments for new and returning students, resolving student issues in collaboration with staff, and coordinating with campus partners on assignments, room changes, and facilities. The role also involves overseeing all housing facilities and operations, including renovations, repairs, new construction, and technology, as well as developing departmental materials and managing policies and procedures. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Students, the Assistant Director plays a key role in strategic planning for Residential Life and the student development division.

Serving approximately 1300 women residents in six residence halls and 13 campus apartment buildings, the Residential Life staff includes a director, assistant director, five live-in residence directors, 40 paraprofessional resident assistants and community advisors, and 8-9 student office assistants. Professional staff members build close connections with students through daily interactions, campus events, and community involvement.

The posted wage represents CSB and SJU's good faith estimate of likely compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will be dependent upon several factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills, and may fall outside of the range indicated.

  • Coordinate and maintain the housing management system (StarRez) to ensure an effective room assignment process for stakeholders, including students, parents, Residential Life staff, Business Office, Student Accessibility Services, and Facilities.
  • Oversee room assignment, selection, and move-in/move-out processes, and manage key/card access.
  • Manage housing billing processes with internal stakeholders.
  • Supervise student employees who staff the central office and front desk.
  • Participate in the Residential Life leadership team, contributing to strategic planning, budget management, policy development, and program growth.
  • Work with Facilities to address maintenance issues in residential areas.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Residential Life to coordinate internal and external communications across multiple media formats.
  • Analyze student enrollment patterns to assess housing needs and recommend eligibility criteria for future housing plans.
  • Assist in preparing the department budget, occupancy and other reports in support of institutional planning and priorities.
  • Serve as a resource for students, families, faculty, and staff regarding room assignments and facility concerns.
  • Represent the institution in housing and residential life matters in various forums, including admission, academic affairs, alumnae, parent groups, community organizations, and college committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor?s degree.
  • Minimum of three years of post-bachelor?s experience in housing operations or facilities management.
  • Experience with housing management software; preference given to candidates with demonstrated knowledge of StarRez.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with numerical data and maintain a high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Teams, etc.).
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to professionalism and maintaining a high level of competence in the role.
  • Ability to exercise discretion, sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality at a high level.
  • Availability for evening, weekend, and holiday work as required.
    • Regular hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. ? 5 p.m. with additional evening and weekend hours during peak periods.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Must have a valid driver?s license and ability to drive a campus vehicle; includes the completion of college defensive driving program.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to move freely around campus and dormitory buildings.
  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while performing administrative tasks.
  • Must have adequate hearing and vision to respond to resident needs.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Occasional local travel in support of duties and programming.
