Job Description:
The incumbent will be engaged, enthusiastic, and committed to the humane and compassionate care of animals. The Team Lead performs all the husbandry and operations related duties of other Animal Care Technicians (ACT's) for animals housed in the Center for Animal Resources and Education (CARE). All work must be done in accordance with CARE Standard Operating Procedures, EH&S policies, USDA, OLAW and OSHA regulations and AAALACi standards. This position is also charged with checking animals' health status and completing required documentation to ensure compliance with recordkeeping requirements.
The CARE Team Lead is responsible for training new ACTs and ensuring training is successful by evaluating performance. Working in conjunction with the Facility Manager, Supervisors and Training Coordinator, the Team Lead provides onboarding support and in-person training to ACTs and cagewash staff for the 30, 60, 90-day onboarding as well as for day-to-day husbandry and operations processes in accordance with CARE departmental SOPs. The Team Lead also provides training to interns and other temporary, seasonal or part-time hires and will also aid the Training Coordinator with scheduled training sessions. This person also provides technical assistance in the setup, maintenance and repair of equipment within the department including cage washers, autoclaves, Individually Ventilated Cage (IVC) racks and animal housing (cages, pens, banks).
Some weekend and holiday work is required. Weekends are worked on a rotating basis, approximately every 4 weeks. Availability and number of holidays to be worked is contingent upon staffing needs. This position is an Essential On-Campus position. This position requires working at multiple locations for Brown University and Brown University Health.
