About the Role
The Carbon and Materials Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring The Line achieves its ambitious carbon neutrality goals. This position will lead the development and implementation of strategies and programs to minimize the carbon footprint of construction and operations across all phases of the project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carbon Accounting and Reporting:
- Develop and implement robust carbon accounting methodologies for all project phases (design, construction, operations).
- Collect and analyze data on carbon emissions from various sources, including construction materials, energy consumption, transportation, and waste.
- Prepare regular carbon emissions reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Track progress towards carbon reduction targets and identify areas for improvement.
- Material Selection and Procurement:
- Develop and implement a sustainable materials strategy, prioritizing low-carbon and locally sourced materials.
- Establish a robust materials procurement process that incorporates environmental and social considerations.
- Conduct life cycle assessments (LCAs) of construction materials to evaluate their environmental impacts.
- Promote the use of recycled, reused, and renewable materials.
- Explore and implement innovative construction technologies with low carbon footprints.
- Construction and Operations:
- Collaborate with construction teams to minimize carbon emissions during all construction phases.
- Develop and implement strategies to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions during building operations.
- Promote the use of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power.
- Optimize building designs and operations to enhance energy efficiency.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and suppliers to integrate carbon reduction considerations into all project decisions.
- Engage with local communities and stakeholders to raise awareness about the importance of carbon neutrality.
- Build and maintain relationships with industry experts and research institutions.
- Innovation and Research:
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in low-carbon technologies and materials.
- Conduct research and pilot projects to explore and implement innovative solutions for carbon reduction.
- Develop and implement best practices for carbon management.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
- Master's degree in a relevant field (preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in carbon management, sustainability, or environmental engineering.
- Strong understanding of carbon accounting methodologies and climate change science.
- Experience in conducting life cycle assessments (LCAs).
- Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and sustainability standards.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Experience in working on large-scale construction projects (preferred).
- Experience in the Middle East (preferred).
