NBS Clinical Lab Analyst, Ankeny (Night) - Military Veterans

The State Hygienic Laboratory (Iowa's Environmental and Public Health Laboratory), at the University of Iowa, under contract with the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, has an exciting full-time opportunity for a newborn screening laboratory analyst in the Ankeny, IA facility. The primary function of the position is to perform biochemical and genetic testing of blood specimens collected from newborns for detection of inherited disorders.

In accordance with CLIA regulations, an official or copy of an official, transcript will be required prior to an offer of employment. (Applicants with degrees from foreign institutions must have the transcripts evaluated by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services and the applicant is responsible for all costs associated with that evaluation).

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 9:30 p.m.-7:30 a.m., with rotating weekends and Holidays

About the State Hygienic Laboratory
The s main facilities are headquartered on the University of Iowa's Research Park campus northwest of Iowa City in Coralville. Additional testing facilities are part of the Iowa Laboratory Facilities in Ankeny, a Des Moines suburb.

Since 1904, the State Hygienic Laboratory has been at the forefront of public health issues in Iowa. As the state's public health and environmental laboratory, the Hygienic Laboratory serves all of Iowa's 99 counties through disease detection, environmental monitoring, and newborn and maternal screening.

Qualifications:

Education or Equivalency Required
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Genetics, or other related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualifications

• Basic and relevant laboratory experience that demonstrates a clear understanding of the clinical laboratory environment.

• Demonstrate good teamwork and interpersonal skills, including relationship management within the unit and outside the immediate work unit.

• Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

• Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to perform tasks that require accuracy, attention to detail, including accurate record keeping.

• Demonstrate working proficiency with Microsoft Office software, (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

Highly Desirable Qualifications

• Six months to one-year related Newborn Screening (NBS) laboratory experience.

Desirable Qualifications

• Working experience in clinical laboratory testing.

• Previous public health laboratory experience.
