Financial Specialist Senior/Intermediate - Military Veterans

at HERC- Upper MidWest

The Financial Specialist will work closely with all areas of the Internal Medicine Department. Our team supports 13 divisions as well as the Chief Administrative Officer and Department Chair.

We handle the financial reporting and forecasting for a department of approximately 1,000 faculty that significantly contribute to the tripartite mission. We work closely with Departmental and Michigan Medicine financial teams to provide decision support, forecasting, and various analysis throughout the year.

Ideal candidates are adaptable and willing to take on a broad variety of additional tasks to improve operational efficiency, make or prepare presentations to internal groups, and other duties as assigned, functioning with a high degree of independence to deliver projects in a timely and effective manner.

  • Financial lead for three divisions, providing the following services:
    • Assist in the calculation of the annual budget and mid-year forecasts.
    • Audit yearly Internal Controls processes/procedures.
    • Monthly financial variance reporting.
    • Prepare ROIs.
    • Enter Capital Equipment into Procurement website.
    • Aid/provide guidance for ad-hoc questions.
  • Prepare the monthly and year-end financial reports for the department.
  • Complete year-end closing process.
  • Investigate variances from budget.
  • Collect data to identify trends, profitability, and expense forecasts.
  • Reconcile faculty compensation and balance sheet accounts.
  • Participating in special projects to improve reporting, analysis, and internal processes.

Financial Specialist Senior:
  • Bachelors degree preferably a focus in Accounting or Finance.
  • 3 to 5 years of financial, accounting, and/or business-related experience.

Financial Specialist Intermediate:
  • Bachelors degree preferably a focus in Accounting or Finance.
  • 2 to 3 years of financial, accounting, and/or business-related experience.

Both:
  • Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, excellent problem solving, critical thinking and organizational skills, self-starter, and ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Respond in a timely manner to requests and questions about the budget, expenditures, etc.
  • Strong ability to balance multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of University of Michigan systems and processes.
  • Financial experience in a healthcare setting.

The work schedule will be primarily remote but will have times when on-site work and meetings will be required.

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
