Assistant Chief of Fire Prevention - Military Veterans

Purpose and Scope:
The Assistant Chief of Fire Prevention shall work with the Installation Fire Chief to provide fire, emergency medical, & rescue services at AAAF for facilities, aircraft, and people IAW AFI 32-2001 -FES Program, Air Force Manpower Standard (AFMS) 44F1, AF FES Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Playbook, NFPA 460 - Standard for Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Services at Airports, NFPA 472 - Standard for Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents, NFPA 1072 - Standard for Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications, NFPA 1221 - Standard for the Installation, Maintenance, and Use of Emergency Services Communications Systems, and NFPA 1710 - Guide for Structural Firefighting. This position is in support of the Air Force Contract Augmentation Program (AFCAP) and is located at Ascension Island Auxiliary Airfield (AAAF).
Essential Responsibilities:
- Responsible to the Installation Fire Chief for the execution of the installation fire protection program and for determining the resources required for the installation's overall fire protection program.
- Establish and implement an effective Fire and Emergency Services (FES) program that includes mutual aid, initial emergency medical care, trapped persons rescue, HAZMAT response, wildland emergency response, and emergency response programs.
- Prepare and submit an electronic monthly fire status report.
- Ensure that all personnel training is scheduled, tracked, and performed IAW the Air Force Fire and Emergency Services Training Program (FESTP) and documented in FES-IMS.
- Ensure that all fire extinguishers in facilities and on the flightline are maintained in a serviceable condition.
Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Must have certification for the following:
- Fire Inspector III
- Fire Instructor II
- Fire Officer III
- Hazardous Materials Incident Commander
- Airport Firefighter
- Must possess a National Registry Emergency Medical Responder (NREMR)
- Must possess a National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) BASIC level or above
- Minimum of two-year experience at that duty position.
- Training must be accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or National Professional Qualification System (NPQS). IFSAC or NPQS seals on the training certificates provide evidence of IFSAC or NPQS accreditation or foreign nation equivalent.
- Must be physically fit, present a neat appearance, and maintain safety-related grooming standards.
- Must be medically cleared to wear a SCBA mask PRIOR to arrival at AAAF.
- Shall have and maintain a current CPR card issued by either the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- High school diploma or equivalent training/experience.
- Ability to read and write English is required.
- Solid communications skills, strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong ability to work as a member of a diverse, dynamic team.
- Outstanding problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
- Possess a valid issued driver's license, passport from their country and could obtain a work visa.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment.
- Candidate should be other country national (OCN) or local national (LN).
- Prefer candidate who has experience working on a US Government contract.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
- The Assistant Chief of Fire Prevention shall be located at Ascension Island.
- This position will be exposed to products of fire to include heat, smoke, toxic fumes, and gasses.
- Basic physical requirements include walking, bending, stooping, stretching, climbing, running, and lifting to 100 pounds.
- Must be able to perform job tasks at any place on the Aerial Ladder from minimal extension to full extension.
- Must be able to perform assigned duties while wearing a self-contained-breathing-apparatus (SCBA), with minimal loss of effectiveness and efficiency.
- Must be able to navigate tight turns, stairs, and enclosed spaces while wearing firefighting personal protective equipment to include SCBA.
- At times, work will be done in a station or an office environment maintaining vehicles, equipment and firefighting apparatus.
- Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable.
- Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions.
- Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
