DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker is seeking a Mechanical Department Manager to lead the team in our San Diego, CA, office. The successful candidate will be Michael Baker's lead for the mechanical operation staff, and responsible for business development, new work, as well as be a lead project manager for key projects with select clients. The candidate will oversee business planning, resource management, and quality assurance for the entire mechanical team. They will also be responsible for leading, developing, and growing the group of professionals servicing federal, state, county, municipal and private sector clients within the mechanical, plumbing, and piping building design expertise. The following provides additional clarification of job duties as it relates to each responsibility of this role:

Leadership and Management:

  • Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers.
  • Assign tasks, set goals, and monitor team performance.
  • Foster a highly collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Facilitate the resource management of the team through workload planning and assignments.
  • Monitor financial performance of the team to adhere to the established annual budget.
Business Development:

  • Grow revenue from existing client base through ensuring high quality work product and regular client interactions.
  • Attend local industry events to create and maintain networking connections.
  • Identify and win new work from new and existing clients.
Client Management:

  • Communicate with clients to understand their needs and provide technical expertise.
  • Present project proposals and updates to clients.
  • Ensure client satisfaction through effective project delivery.
Project Management:

  • Oversee all phases of mechanical engineering or mechanical/electrical/plumbing (MEP) projects, from design to implementation.
  • Develop proposals, facilitate client contracts, establish and enforce project schedules, and monitor and adhere to project budgets.
  • Coordinate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure project success.
Quality Assurance:

  • Identify and resolve any issues or deficiencies.
  • Implement best practices for quality control and continuous improvement.
Sustainability and Innovation:

  • Promote sustainable engineering practices.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 15 years of mechanical engineering experience; business development and sales experience in the MEP industry is preferred.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.).
  • Strong leadership skills and management experience, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients, customers, and partners.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong track record of client satisfaction and stellar quality assurance.
COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position is $119,000-$207,000. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
