Animal Health Technician (ANML HEALTH TCHN 3) Job Summary Independent of supervision in a high-quality, high-volume surgical setting, responsible for monitoring, treatment, and care of patients, including those with potentially life-threatening illness or injury. Under direction of the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program's Chief of Service, Shelter Medicine Animal Care Clinic Supervisor, provide veterinary technical support to the veterinarians and veterinary students enrolled in the Shelter Medicine and Surgery Rotation at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. On a daily basis, independently perform and/or assist students with physical exams, administer anesthesia, monitor anesthesia and recovery, aseptic preparation of patients for various surgical procedures, student instruction, volunteer and staff supervision, clinician support, and facility support. RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the apply by date. Apply By Date 02/18/2025 by 11:59 pm Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) License. Associates Degree Experience administering medications/therapies PO, IV, SC, IM, and topical to small animal patients. Experience administering a variety of prescribed anesthetic and peri-anesthetic drugs and inducing and maintaining anesthesia in small animal patients. Experience using anesthetic delivery, support, and monitoring equipment, assessing patient status and independently responding to changes. Interpersonal and communication skills to work with a diverse group of people, to include clinicians, students, and staff in an accurate, professional, and collegial manner. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in an animal shelter setting and/or experience working in a high-volume surgical setting. Experience providing instruction to staff, students, and/or volunteers. Experience operating common computer database systems used in medical records management. The program, a major component of the CCAH, advances the specialty of shelter medicine through health and behavior studies, education of veterinary professionals and veterinary service to shelters.
