In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children?s Hospital Medical Center, College of Medicine?s faculty are transforming the world of medicine every day. The UC Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Cincinnati has been an independent academic unit within the College of Medicine since 1984. It is responsible for the medical direction of the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Center for Emergency Care (CEC), the newly opened FLEX-ICU, and the Emergency Medicine Residency Training Program. The College of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine, is seeking to fill a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant position in the new FLEX Intensive Care Unit (FLEX-ICU) at UCMC. The position will be housed entirely within the new FLEX-ICU and care will be provided to critically ill and injured patients, undifferentiated critically ill transfer patients, organ donors, and complex step-down level patients. The work schedule will include 12 hours shifts, days and nights, weekdays and weekends. Positions that only work nights are available. For qualified applicants, overtime shifts in the ED may be available as well. Essential Functions Provide state of the art care to critically ill and injured patients, as well as complex step-down patients, in the new FLEX-ICU at University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC). Perform critical care duties necessary to stabilize and care for a mixed critical care population per the Standard Care Agreement with a collaborating physician. Develop treatment plans in collaboration with the attending physician and members of the multidisciplinary critical care team. Prescribe and monitor medications in accordance with the state and University of Cincinnati Medical Center prescriptive authority. Procedures necessary for the provision of critical care including arterial catheter placement, central line placement, and diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy will be performed commensurate with existing skill and privileging. Independent capability with these procedures is preferred but not required at job start. Be actively involved with Quality Management, data collection and performance improvement initiatives. Other activities and/or duties assigned to achieve the overall mission of the position within the department. Minimum Requirements Nurse Practitioner: Required Education Master?s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program. Required Trainings/Certifications Active Ohio APRN license with prescriptive authority. Active Board Certification in appropriate nursing specialty. Required Experience Three (3) years nursing experience. Additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty. - OR - Physician Assistant: Required Education Master's Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program. Required Trainings/Certifications Active Ohio Physician Assistant license with prescriptive authority. Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Required Experience Minimum of one (1) year experience is required. Additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty. Additional Qualifications Considered Critical care experience as an APP is ideal. New graduates will be considered. Flexibility, teamwork, and enthusiasm are ideal characteristics of applicants.
