SECURITY GUARD (FLEX/LOSS PREVENTION) - Military Veterans
at Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM)
Job Summary: Maintains security of containers, trucks, transiting distribution centers, and Exchanges. Prevents and detects illegal dishonest acts. Controls access to distribution centers and Exchange restricted areas, ensures the security of associates and assets.
Duties and Responsibilities: Maintains surveillance throughout warehouse areas to prevent and detect illegal and dishonest acts such as the removal of government property.
- Observes employees activities to detect pilferage and or collusion.
- Follows suspects and in accordance with established policies and procedures detains individuals suspected of committing illegal acts after receiving authorization from supervisor. Protects the integrity of the evidence until the proper authorities arrive.
- Maintains control of all seals at all times. Ensures all trailers in the compound with freight are locked and sealed. Ensures all vehicles are logged in and out of the compound.
- Monitors warehouse internal and external security systems to prevent possible loss. Makes recommendations for revisions improvements where deficiencies and or weaknesses have been identified.
- Assists supervisor in studying inventory shrink and conducting inquiries as assigned in high shortage areas. Reviews merchandise periodically to ensure that unauthorized changes in pricing or location have not been made. Witnesses as required the destruction of merchandise that has been marked down to zero.
- Maintains logs and reports of all visitors, investigations discrepancy reports, etc.
- Ensure only authorized personnel are allowed to enter the warehouses.
- Conducts administrative inspections as directed by supervisor management.
- Assists base police and or Military Working Dog Teams as directed.
- Exercises tact and diplomacy in contacts with patrons and associates while carrying out assignments.
- Supports and carries out EEO policies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

No experience, training, or education are required.
EVALUATION OF CANDIDATES:
All guards are expected to bring to the job alertness, tact, integrity, and ability to learn guard rules, regulations, pertinent laws general and special orders, and administrative procedures relating to security programs. Person-to-person contacts form an important and significant part of the total work of the guard and identification checker. Ability to communicate effectively is important to continued success.

The Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) is the headquarters for the worldwide NEXCOM Enterprise and is one of 11 commands under the Commander, Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP).

NEXCOM oversees six primary business programs:
- Navy Exchange (NEX) Retail Stores and Services
- NEXCOM Hospitality Group
- Uniform Program Management Office (UPMO)
- Navy Clothing Textile and Research Facility (NCTRF)
- Ships Stores Program
- Telecommunications Program Office (TPO)
With the exception of the Ships Store Program, the NEXCOM Enterprise conducts its operations as a federal non-appropriated funded instrumentality. As such, the command is self-supporting with 70 percent of its profits given to Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) programs and the remaining 30 percent reinvested in NEX buildings and equipment.
NEXCOM is a military organization and is subject to congressional legislation as well as oversight from the Department of the Navy. NEXCOM’s parent command is the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP).
The NEXCOM Enterprise boasts over 14,000 civilian associates in a wide variety of jobs worldwide, over 40 percent of whom are military affiliated as either family members or veterans. The bulk of NEXCOM’s workforce is comprised of government non-appropriated civilians, many of whom are also military affiliated as either family members or veterans. This combination of military leadership and civilian business expertise enables NEXCOM to perform its unique mission for the Navy.
