The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

This is a unique opportunity to support the Office of Interdisciplinary Engagement in its mission to expand the Climate School???s capacity for trans-disciplinary collaboration, drive engagement across the University, and incubate and accelerate projects in alignment with the Climate School???s three pillars of research, education, and impact.

Reporting to the Senior Assistant Dean for Interdisciplinary Engagement, the Project Manager provides administrative and special project support, including tasks related to the Office???s operations, budgeting, and event logistics.

Earth Networks are three-year working groups formed around interdisciplinary topics that relate to the Climate School???s mission. The Earth Networks program promotes fresh approaches to research, education, and fourth purpose work on themes related to climate, sustainability and the future of planet Earth, and provides an entry point for engagement with the Climate School for stakeholders across the University. This program aims to Support Columbia University partners from multiple disciplines in incorporating climate topics into their curricula and build connections between schools that are already engaged with climate topics in order to develop a shared vocabulary across the University. This role will build capacity for successful interdisciplinary collaboration through targeted workshops to help Networks and other partners identify a clear set of goals and actionable steps to move their specific initiatives forward. Workshops topics have included: Centering Justice, Storytelling, Honing your mission, and more.

Responsibilities
  • Workshop and Event Planning: Tasks will include providing support for the development, planning, and execution of in-person and virtual events, meetings, conferences, workshops, and special programs.
    • Workshops are hands-on, facilitated sessions focused on learning skills in collaboration and storytelling in order to develop and execute specific projects.
    • Accordingly, the ideal candidate for this position will have an interest in supporting workshop development from the ideation stage through active facilitation assistance in the room, a role which includes collaborating on the generation of workshop agenda, preparing collateral materials for specific sessions, group facilitation, and note-taking and organizational assistance.
  • Communications and Outreach: Edits or completes first drafts for written communications (emails, memos, letters) to internal and external stakeholders, on behalf of the Senior Assistant Dean, as needed. Attend Network events and activities and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
    • Duties may also include preparing background research related to projects, providing communications support for internal and external partners, supporting the development of reports, briefings, and presentations, as well as designing and disseminating feedback mechanisms.
  • Administrative support: Manage aspects of Network RFP and review processes and membership lists, attend Network meetings, and take notes.
    • Additional tasks may also include working with colleagues to support tasks such as budget management and financial tracking.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor???s degree or equivalent combination of education and 2 - 4 years related experience
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word and PowerPoint), PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Proficiency with graphic and/or facilitation tools such as Miro, Canva, JamBoard, the Adobe suite, and similar are a plus.
  • Excellent oral, written, organizational, and interpersonal skills required, with the ability to handle confidential information with exceptional judgment and discretion necessary. Accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail are essential.
  • Must be able to identify priorities within multiple assignments in a high-pressure, short-deadline environment, and be able to work with diplomacy and efficiency in such an environment.
  • Must be a team player and able to effectively interact with all levels of faculty, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Must be able to work in person and remotely as needed.
  • Applicants should be highly motivated, professional, and detail-oriented.
  • A strong interest in climate, the environment, and sustainability is preferred, with knowledge of the circular economy also desirable. but not required.
  • An ability to solve problems quickly, creatively, and independently is an asset in this role, as well as a willingness to provide hands-on support for events and workshops in an efficient and collaborative way
  • The ability to help set up events and transport materials between venues, such as catering supplies and workshop materials.
