Argonne's Computing and Environmental Life Sciences directorate is seeking a Project Lead for Innovation. In this role, you can expect to:
- Lead and coordinate the strategic design, development, and implementation of innovative research projects within the computing and scientific innovation space in CELS, driving cross-disciplinary teams toward success.
- Collaborate with ALCF and CELS leadership and staff to define and execute a long-term vision for computational research and infrastructure aligned with institutional priorities.
- Develop strategies to leverage high-performance computing (HPC), artificial intelligence, and advanced data analytics to address critical challenges in science and engineering.
- Establish partnerships and serve as a key contact point with agency program offices and stakeholders to ensure alignment with funding priorities.
- Drive the conceptualization and development of novel approaches to system design and resource optimization, addressing current and emerging scientific challenges.
- Proactively identify funding opportunities, leading proposal development to secure resources for transformative computational projects.
- Provide leadership in mathematical modeling, simulation techniques, and advanced computing methods, fostering innovation in research.
- Oversee research programs spanning multiple projects and multidisciplinary teams, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and delivering impactful outcomes.
- Mentor and manage a talented team of scientists, postdocs, and students, promoting collaboration, professional growth, and inclusivity.
- Build and sustain relationships with academic, industrial, and governmental partners, enhancing the organization's reputation as a leader in computational science.
- Evolve management strategies to support expanding research efforts and maintain excellence in execution.
- Deliver insights and recommendations that influence organizational strategy and future directions.
- Lead initiatives that align cutting-edge technologies with mission-critical applications, advancing computational science and engineering.
Position Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience :
- Advanced degree (master's or Ph.D.) in computer science, applied mathematics, engineering, or related fields, with 15+ years of relevant experience or equivalent.
- Demonstrated success in defining and implementing strategic initiatives in computational research or related domains.
- Expertise in HPC, data analytics, modeling and simulation, and next-generation system architectures.
- Proven ability to lead and deliver large-scale, multidisciplinary research projects.
- Strong understanding of laboratory operations, regulatory requirements, and funding mechanisms.
- Experience building and sustaining collaborative partnerships with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Skilled in managing teams and fostering a culture of innovation and inclusivity.
- Demonstrated track record of securing and managing external funding for research initiatives.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to navigate complex challenges.
- Knowledge of trends in computing technologies and their implications for scientific research.
- Passion for the mission of the Lab.

The expected hiring range for this position is $184,306.00 - $299,502.45.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
