Job Summary and Qualifications
The Product Owner is the “CEO” of clinical documentation efforts, responsible for directing all pod activities and areas of development to meet business unit objectives, domain and use case OKRs. This role bridges stakeholders (including customers, internal teams, and executives) and the pod team, translating business requirements into detailed user stories and prioritizing the product backlog. The Product Owner is key in driving the development and delivery of products that meet market demands and drive organizational success.
The ideal candidate should have a clinical background with a solid understanding of documentation requirements. This individual will need to collaborate with multiple teams to help develop technology that assists in quality care, provides efficiencies for our clinicians, and helps drive strategic goals. He/she should possess excellent leadership and communication skills.
DT&I’s mission is to bring innovative technology solutions to the clinical and administrative frontline of HCA, re-shaping healthcare processes to improve patient outcomes, empower clinicians with insights, and drive greater efficiency for all. In this role you will be responsible for innovating our care team processes, making them more intelligent, impactful, and efficient. In so doing, you will help our clinicians provide the best care possible and have a better experience in their work.
This will be a fully on-site position in our corporate office in Nashville, TN.
This job may require up to 25% travel.
Major Responsibilities:
Product Vision and Strategy
- Develop and communicate a clear product vision that aligns with business objectives, including capturing accurate, complete, consistent, thorough, and compliant documentation.
- Define product strategy and roadmap, ensuring timely product features and updates delivery.
- Manage dependencies with other teams’ functions while identifying, building and managing strategic partnerships across the different teams (including business and ITG) and ensure alignment across use case/data product roadmaps
- Oversee the development and implementation of the product, ensuring it adheres to the defined vision and goals, including the development of reusable, modular components (i.e., limited one-off or “tech-debt” code)
- Work with the Domain Leader to set aspirational and achievable Objectives and Key Results (OKRs); regularly adjust product strategy and pod direction based on OKR attainment
Backlog Management
- Create, prioritize, and maintain a product backlog (backlog grooming) that aligns with business goals and progress towards sprint goals and quarterly targets / OKRs
- Ensure user stories and requirements are clearly articulated and aligned with the vision.
- Work with the Tech Lead and other engineers to estimate the level of effort for each user story
- Continuously refine and adjust the backlog to meet changing priorities and new insights.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Engage with stakeholders, including clinicians, to gather requirements, feedback, and insights, ensuring alignment with the overall product strategy.
- Escalate and unblock any pod members' dependencies/needs. Facilitate communication between pod members and other teams or shared services
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all product-related queries and decisions.
- Act as the “voice of the customer” within the pod to ensure the right thing is built
Agile Process Participation
- Participate in Sprint Planning, Retrospectives, Demos, and Stand-Ups to ensure smooth execution of product development.
- Determine which user stories are completed in each sprint to achieve OKRs
- Lead Sprint Planning, Sprint Demo, and Sprint Retrospective alongside the Scrum Master
- Ensure product increments are delivered on time and meet the defined acceptance criteria.
- Track product performance and use data to inform decisions and future iterations.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, or other related fields required
- Master's degree in healthcare related, Business Administration or related field required
- 7+ years of experience in demonstrated experience and expertise in the domain area, ensuring alignment with business objectives and product goals while fostering effective collaboration within cross-functional teams required
- 5+ years of experience in clinical practice (i.e. provider, nurse, PT, etc.) preferred
- 3+ years of experience in clinical documentation requirements (quality and regulatory) preferred
- 3+ years of experience in Product Ownership, Product Management or a related business role preferred
- Prior experience in delivering digital products, with significant domain (i.e., use case area) knowledge/expertise and experience working with and advocating for cross-functional teams with good relationships to stakeholders preferred
- Demonstrated experience leading teams with multiple skillsets to fulfill a complex and aspirational business objective required
- Certified Scrum Product Owner or similar Agile certification preferred
