Overview of the Program
The purpose of this internship is to provide interns with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to transition to full time employment as a STERIS Equipment Service Installer. The internship will focus on installing new equipment in existing and new Customer sites including autoclave, washers, and GI equipment., .
The incumbent for this position should expect to be a hands-on installer that builds trust and effective relationships with our customers. Interns will receive a combination of hands-on, classroom-style and computer-based training, which will enable them to perform installations and start-up of autoclaves as well as exposure and experience with installations across product lines. This role is performed in a highly regulated work environment requiring the ability to meet Customer credentialing and STERIS requirements, safe work practices, and adherence to STERIS and Customer standards. This role is a field-based service provider expected to meet the performance expectations of the role in providing exceptional service to our Customers. STERIS manufacturers and services critical infection protection equipment, such as autoclaves, which are critical to the delivery of patient care and timely, quality procedures. (Note: The objective of the program is to provide full time employment to all interns who meet training objectives and receive positive performance appraisals. However, an offer of full-time employment is not guaranteed.)
Training Specifics
· On the Job Training: The training program is designed to provide interns with the knowledge, and skills necessary to transition into full-time employment with STERIS as an Equipment Service Technician I. Interns will receive a combination of hands-on, on-site training as well as classroom style and computer-based training. Interns who demonstrate satisfactory completion of training objectives and receive positive performance reviews can expect to be offered full-time employment with STERIS as an Equipment Service Installer in one of a number of locations or other available position that meets business needs and the intern’s interest.
Training objectives include:
· Completes onboarding activities including STERIS and business level requirements for role
· Learn to perform Customer facing activities in the appropriate communication channel, such as scheduling, communicating findings and next steps, and completing required documentation in business systems (AOKS, Siebel, and other training) (152 hours)
· Learn how to Perform Installation and start-up of autoclaves and other infection protection equipment (200 hours)
· Learn how to perform autoclave installation, pre & post install administrative tasks, Start Up, Calibration, and basic Troubleshooting utilizing a multitude of systems and processes. (200 hours)
· Learn how to review and interpret data and information sources, under supervision, to inform daily/monthly work planning and to perform duties. This includes but not limited to: Customer scheduling support, administrative duties related to compliance, contract & billing (70 hours)
· Learn inventory management process and requirements (xx hours)
· Learns compliance policies and protocols, including Customer, Regulatory and STERIS Safety, Fleet and Operational Policies and Practices (5 hours)
· Complete all mandatory training activities for both safety and operational training as assigned by supervisor and in accordance with strict requirements for safety, Customer and operational policies and standard operating procedures. included in areas above)
· Employment Skills Professional Development Seminars (18 Hours)
Professional Development: To enable all candidates to have long term, successful post-military careers, RecruitMilitary provides employment skill training and professional development coaching for all participating interns. This portion of the program includes participation in professional development seminars, close work with assigned mentors and practical applications to ensure all interns are armed with the requisite knowledge skills and abilities to develop and manage a successful civilian career after military service. Developmental topics include:
· Creating resumes targeted to specific opportunities in specific fields of employment.
· Leveraging social media to effectively network in the digital environment for career success.
· Development of a coherent personal brand to effectively market the intern to potential employers.
· Use of digital and online tools for targeted job searches and networking.
· Development of skills necessary to secure, prepare for and succeed at job interviews and subsequent salary negotiations.
Training Period: The training program is based upon a 120-day training model. Service members with less than 120 days available may be considered for participation provided they have a minimum of 90 days availability. Programs may be customized in length for high potential candidates.
Equipment Service & Install Support Technician Key Responsibilities
Customer Focus
· Learns and practices pro-active, professional communication and commitment to resolving Customer’s issues/problems expediently. Skills and expectations supported through classroom Customer Engagement training.
· Assists team as needed with Customer communication protocols (scheduling, coordinating)
· Maintain courteous and professional demeanor when working with Customers, contractors, management, and fellow Associates. Utilizes Customer protocols when entering and exiting facilities and abide by all STERIS and Customer Health & Safety protocols and procedures. Fulfill vendor credentialing in accounts as needed.
Technical/Professional, Compliance & Safety
· Adhere to company Code of Conduct and relevant process and procedure, working closely with training sponsor and assigned leader
· Learn and demonstrate adherence to regulatory and compliance requirements related to installation qualification and administrative support, training and guidance. This includes preparing the site, materials, safety protocols, assembling or disassembling, utility related install processes as needed, addressing access and construction related issues to meet Customer and compliance requirements and certifying equipment ready for use by using standard and specialized tools and test equipment (i.e., schematics, diagrams, technical manuals, etc.).
· Learn basics and may perform processes related to inventory, tools, and personal protective equipment.
· Adhere to internship schedule as agreed on between intern’s military leadership and STERIS
· Learn and may perform daily administrative duties using multiple application platforms and technology equipment (laptop, smartphone, related software) with supervision.
Professional Development
· Provided with job shadowing opportunities for other Global Service technical roles to deepen understanding of STERIS service offerings and as input to career interest
· May participate in continuous improvement learning or activities
· Performance feedback and career growth discussions provided during course of internship
Job Task Analysis for Equipment Service and Install Support Technician
1. Complete Onboarding Activities and New Employee Training (32)
- Familiarize with STERIS organizational structure, policies, and procedures. Attend onboarding education sessions related to role, support functions & policies and company orientation, systems and policies.
- Understand the work environment, team practices and resources.
2. Perform Customer relationship building scheduling, communications and follow up activities related to preventative maintenance and repairs, including documentation in business systems (120 hours)
· Perform Customer-facing activities utilizing One-of-a-Kind Service skills, in the appropriate communication channel, such as scheduling, communicating findings and next steps in a timely effective manner.
· Documenting required information in business systems and notifying other internal stakeholders in appropriate communication channel to achieve outcomes.
3. Perform installation prep, completion and closing out including administrative tasks that meet business includes travel time (200 hours)
- Assist in performing installation under supervision utilizing OJT training, and other support information and resources.
- Perform required record keeping and communications protocol related to Customer, compliance and business processes, accurately and timely.
4. Perform Autoclave Installation, Start Up, Calibration, and basic Troubleshooting, includes travel time (200 hours)
- Assist in diagnosing issues and performing installation, start up, calibration and basic troubleshooting on autoclaves under supervision, utilizing OJT and formal training (instructor led, web-based), and field support resources.
- Perform standard record keeping and communications related to diagnosis and repair, accurately and timely.
5. Performs Administrative tasks and reviews Data and Information Sources, under supervision, to inform daily/monthly work planning and to perform administrative and recordkeeping duties. (40 hours)
· Reviews and interprets data from Customer/sales documents, Install Project Manager guidance, and other internal data sources and communications, to assess actions needed, utilizing available support tools and resources.
· Accesses contract and other information sources to guide decision work planning making and communication with Customer and take appropriate action
6. Performs Inventory management (16 hours)
· Learns and applies equipment parts inventory management standard protocols, including ordering, returning, reporting and managing inventory levels.
7. Ensures Compliance policies and protocols are followed, including Customer, Regulatory and STERIS Safety, Fleet and Operational Policies and Practices (16 hours)
- Learns and adheres to STERIS and business level policies and process.
- Learns and adheres to role specific federal and state compliance policies and standards
- Learns and adheres to Customer credentialing policies and requirements
8. Employment Skills Professional Development Seminars (18 hours)

Skills, Requirements, & Qualifications
· High School diploma and 5 years’ experience including related installation, mechanical, construction experience. College degree or vocational certifications including military training programs are considered towards experience requirement. Ability to meet regular travel requirements, including overnight travel and weekend, evening scheduling as needed
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, including daily Customer facing communications
· Ability to build strong internal and Customer relationships and conflict resolution skills
· Basic computer skills including MS windows/email, navigation, mobile app and proprietary business systems. Adept in utilizing multiple systems to perform daily work and learning new technology.
