Scheduled Hours 37.5 Position Summary The function of the job is conducting detailed laboratory experiments in preparation characterization of biomaterials such as proteins, lignin, and microbes, with the aim of producing high-quality samples for research, ultimately advancing interdisciplinary studies and contributing valuable data to support ongoing experimental projects. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Microbial Protein Expression and Purification Conduct microbial protein expression and purification processes to produce high-quality proteins for research applications. Operate and maintain protein purification systems to ensure efficient and reliable protein isolation. Microbial Fermentation Carry out microbial fermentation processes to cultivate and harvest microbial products for further analysis and use in experimental projects. Biopolymer such as PHA Preparation Prepare biopolymers, such as polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), using established protocols and techniques. Quantification Using LC and GC-MS Perform quantification of biomaterials using Liquid Chromatography (LC) and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) methods to ensure accurate data collection. General lab organization, manage EH&S responsibility, and perform other duties as assigned. Working Conditions: Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. More About This Job Preferred Qualifications: Masters degree in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field. One year of laboratory experience in biotechnology, microbiology, or a related field, with a focus on protein expression and purification. Hands-on experience with operating analytical instruments like FPLC and GCMS. Capability in conducting microbial fermentation and protein purification processes. Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory experiments. Experience in maintaining accurate laboratory records and documentation. Capability of identifying and resolving technical issues promptly and ability to troubleshoot and optimize experimental protocols. Excellent oral and written communication skills for effectively conveying experimental results and collaborating with colleagues. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
