Position Title: Student Engagement Specialist - University Honors Program Job Group: Professional & Scientific Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree and 2 years of related experience Preferred Qualifications: Masters degree in Higher Education or related field Experience working with undergraduate programming Experience advising student groups Strong program management skills Strong presentation skills Job Description: Summary The University Honors Program under the Senior Vice President and Provost at Iowa State University is seeking a Student Engagement Specialist. This position provides individualized student mentoring and coaching to help students navigate their University Honors Program curriculum requirements and develop and implement extra and co-curricular programming. The University Honors Program brings together some of Iowa State University's brightest and most motivated students to take advantage of both intellectual and social opportunities. Honors scholars gain early exposure to research and leadership as well as benefit from creating an individualized educational path adding breadth and depth to their academic experience. The primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to using the EAB Navigate software platform to create outreach campaigns to Honors students; conducting individual and small group academic coaching meetings with Honors students; advising the Honors Student Board and Upper-Division Peer Advisor Group; developing and facilitating programming to support the upper-division Honors community. This position will also support the recruitment of first-year, current, and transfer students into the University Honors Program. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, possess good time management skills, exhibit the ability to work independently with a strong work ethic and a desire to learn, and have experience fostering community within an ungraduated program. The incumbent will need strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively via multiple modalities to a variety of groups including undergraduates, campus partners, and members of the Honors Program team. This position requires some nights and weekends. Level Guidelines Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity Provides guidance to students Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
