Position: Research Associate (Computational Design and Robotic Construction)
Description: Overview Adel Research Group (ARG) at Princeton University invites applicants for full-time Research Associate positions to join our team. Candidates will work with Dr. Arash Adel (Assistant Professor in the School of Architecture and Associated Faculty of the Department of Computer Science) and other members of ARG on interdisciplinary research and design projects, exhibitions, publications, and full-scale robotically fabricated structures. The desired start date is Spring 2025. Appointments are for one year with the possibility of renewal pending satisfactory performance and continued funding. About Us ARG is an interdisciplinary laboratory for advanced research at the intersection of design, computation, and robotics. ARG's research interests include topics such as robot learning, human-robot interaction, Generative AI, computer vision, closed-loop control, additive manufacturing, extended reality (XR), and computational design. Job Description We seek to hire outstanding Research Associates with strong interests in Computational Design and Robotic Construction at the rank of Associate Professional Specialist. Your responsibilities will include collaborating on research projects; assisting with developing diagrams, simulations, documentations, and publications; collaborating on the design and construction of exhibitions and full-scale structures; and assisting with administrative tasks. Qualifications Required qualification: At least a Master's degree in Architecture, and/or related fields (e.g., Master of Science, etc.) Experience with research and publications related to the job description Strong background in Computational Design Excellent programming skills (primarily Python, but C# and C++ also desired) Good knowledge of the CAD software Rhinoceros 3D, its plugin Grasshopper 3D, and its API RhinoCommon Good knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.) Strong communication skills and fluency in English Desired qualifications: Experience developing custom tools and end effectors for robotics research Experience with operating industrial robotic arms Experience with Robot Operating System (ROS) Experience with sensing technologies, computer vision, and perception Real-world architecture and/or construction experience Experience with exhibition design and implementation What We Offer We offer a competitive package (salary, health insurance, and benefits).
