Job Overview
The Technical Specialist III will support the design, development, and optimization of mechanical systems for Electric Mining Shovels. This role requires a strong background in CAD and PDM software, engineering processes, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure the safety, performance, and reliability of our products.
Key Job Responsibilities
Design and detail mechanical systems, including structures, machinery, and air/hydraulic systems.
Create and manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Engineering Change Requests (ECRs).
Utilize CAD and PDM software to develop and manage designs efficiently.
Apply design principles, practices, and knowledge of manufacturing processes.
Collaborate and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Marketing, Parts, Product Support, R&D, and Manufacturing.
Present designs and lead discussions during design reviews.
Perform engineering calculations, including stress analysis, center of gravity, and deflections.
Contribute to Manufacturing Review Board (MRB) processes and problem-solving.
Identify and implement design improvements to enhance safety and performance.
Ensure timely completion of tasks while working both independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications/Requirements
Associate’s degree in mechanical technology or a related field.
5+ years of experience in mechanical design or technical roles, preferably within heavy machinery or the mining industry.
Proficiency in SolidWorks and Microsoft Office Suite applications.
Strong knowledge of design principles, manufacturing processes, and mechanical systems.
Self-motivated with the ability to complete tasks with minimal guidance.
Effective communication and collaboration skills to support cross-functional interactions.

The Komatsu North America Mining Distribution and Service group is a critical part of our Komatsu global organization. We, sell, install, service, provide parts and rebuild equipment, as well as provide digital solutions for our customers.
