Assistant Director, Careers in Climate and Energy | University of Chicago (UC) - Military Veterans

Location: Illinois: Chicago Job Description: Supports the development and implementation of a cohesive strategy for student success in climate and energy careers through early engagement and ongoing support. Collaborates with team leadership to design and implement sector-specific career programs and resources, drawing on deep industry expertise and connections. Organizes and leads programs and workshops highlighting opportunities in climate and energy career pathways, such as cohort programs, competitions, and global career exploration trips. Builds and maintains a portfolio of employers in public, private, and non-governmental sectors to drive internship and full-time job opportunities. Connects students with research opportunities in both academia and industry. Develops and maintains strong relationships with campus partners and faculty. Provides high-quality career advising to undergraduate students and recent alumni through one-on-one career advising sessions. Provides a high level of customer service and support to employers. Assembles resources to assist students in gaining experience in key skills related to data analytics, quantitative research, market analysis, and related technical skills. Analyzes placement and survey data to develop data-driven strategic initiatives. Advises and counsels students concerning employment opportunities and careers by acting as a liaison between students and prospective employers. Conducts mock interviews, reviews resumes and cover letters, and coordinates other interview related programming in both individual and group settings. Performs other related work as needed. Preferred Qualifications Education: Bachelors degree. Experience: Prior experience working in the energy sector or in climate, sustainability, and related fields. Background working with college-aged students, recent college graduates, and or early career professionals. Technical Skills or Knowledge: Knowledge of tools and services including online employment sites, CRM systems and other resources for job seekers. Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Proficiency with tools commonly used in innovation, such as data analysis tools and other industry-relevant technical skills. Preferred Competencies Understanding of career paths including graduate education opportunities in climate, energy, and related fields. A demonstrated passion for supporting the success of students in their career development. Attuned to the recruitment process for early career opportunities in climate and energy sectors across public, private, and non-governmental organizations. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Demonstrated success in maintaining collaborative relationships with diverse constituencies. Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated initiative, and work both independently and collaboratively, with flexibility and adaptability. Deep commitment to customer service, prioritize and balance different work streams, meet deadlines, and work successfully in a fast-paced environment. Strong coaching or counseling skills. Communicate to large groups as well as one-on-one with students, senior management, faculty, donors, and alumni. Working Conditions Work evenings, occasional additional weeknight and weekend days. Travel three to four times per year.
