at HERC- Upper MidWest

Position Summary The Neuronal Resiliency Project focuses on understanding why certain neurons are more resilient to damage in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and ALS. By analyzing over 250 iPSC lines with disease-linked mutations, differentiated into four neuron types, the project investigates how these cells respond to various stressors, including oxidative stress and nutrient deprivation.

Using advanced multi-omic approaches, researchers compare disease-susceptible and resistant neurons to identify pathways that promote resilience. These findings aim to uncover new therapeutic targets and strategies to slow or prevent the progression of these debilitating diseases.
