Environmental Mechanic - Military Veterans

Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Steel West Virginia is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic who demonstrates high levels of honesty, integrity, and ownership in everything they do. The selected teammate will ensure the success of the team by SAFELY performing Preventative and Corrective maintenance on steel mill equipment and systems. During construction, maintenance mechanic will help build the mill and create our computerized maintenance management system to ensure proper design criteria and equipment reliability.

Job Functions include but are not limited to:

• Propose and implement innovative solutions to challenges in the steel making process with a focus on safety, reliability, quality, costs, and project management.
• Perform mechanical troubleshooting and periodic maintenance on equipment.
• Demonstrate the ability to understand mechanical schematics.
• Demonstrate knowledge of hydraulics/pneumatics, lubrication systems, alignments, power transmission, proper fan operation and pumps/piping.
• Train teammates to troubleshoot mechanical issues. 
• Demonstrate the ability to safely rig and replace equipment.
• Work collaboratively with multiple departments and disciplines.
• Have the ability to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, scheduled and unscheduled overtime.

Nucor Steel West Virginia is Nucor's new sheet mill with advanced steelmaking capabilities. This is a greenfield project, which is estimated to be operational in 2026. The new steel mill will employ 800 full-time teammates producing up to 3 million tons per year at one of the most technologically advanced sheet mills. This advanced manufacturing facility is to be located along the Ohio River in close proximity to both Huntington and Charleston, WV. This is a full-time position located at our offices in Mason County, WV.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years' industrial maintenance experience.
• Fundamental Mechanical Theory knowledge.
• Basic welding and fabrication skills
• Demonstrate the ability to properly align rotating equipment
• Experience Troubleshooting Mechanical Systems
• Understanding of fundamental bag house functionality

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior Steel Mill experience.

2-year or 4-year degree in Mechanical or related field.

Experience troubleshooting hydraulic, pneumatic, and powertrain systems. 

Demonstrated ability to teach mechanical aptitude to peers.
