Additional Information About the Role

BJC Medical Group has an opportunity for a BE/BC Neurologist to join BJC Medical Group Neurology Associates at St. Charles based at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital.  This growing group has an established team of 2 Neurologists and 2 Neurology APPs.  The team also rotates days at the clinic based at nearby Progress West Hospital.

 

Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ for certification as Primary Stroke Centers.  The providers care for a variety of neurological conditions including headaches, movement disorder, neuromuscular disease, chronic migraines, epilepsy, memory disorders, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, stroke, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other nerve conditions.

 

Practice Highlights:

  • Established team of 2 Neurologists and 2 Neurology APPs
  • Special areas of interest can be accommodated
  • Inpatient and outpatient with shared weekend call coverage of 1:4 
  • APP's help with inpatient rounding
  • Collaborative relationship with dozens of Primary Care Physicians in the area
  • Strong support staff with a dedicated Medical Assistant for each provider
  • 36 patient contact hours with ability to have half day off per week

Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital is a 101-bed community hospital providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services including the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital, Breast Health and Women’s Center, Cardiology Center, a nationally accredited Sleep and Breathing Lab, and the Outpatient Surgery and Endoscopy Center. The hospital also has a 35-bed inpatient rehabilitation facility, operated by The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis, a joint partnership between BJC HealthCare and HealthSouth Corporation.

 

Progress West Hospital has the latest in facility design, technology and patient-centered care, including 44 private beds, 24-hour adult and pediatric emergency services, surgical services, cardiac catheterization lab, inpatient services, obstetrical services and diagnostic imaging. Progress West Hospital is a certified Level II Stroke Center and a highly regarded community hospital in the region.

St. Peters is a large suburban neighborhood of St. Louis City. Located 10 minutes from Downtown Saint Charles and 30 minutes from Downtown St. Louis.  Offers top public and private schools. The area has consistently ranked one of Missouri's best places for young professionals to live.  Just minutes from O'Fallon, Missouri which is the largest suburb of St. Louis City with a population of over 87,000. O'Fallon has some of the best public schools in the area and has a reputation for being one of the more affluent areas in the Greater St. Louis Region. O'Fallon hosts a great real estate market and accessible major city of St. Louis.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

The physician will provide professional medical services within the practicing Specialty to the best of physician’s ability through direct patient care and spend additional time as necessary to perform other related duties such as completing medical records, providing MyChart consultations and inbasket management, conducting patient-specific education and collaborating with advanced practice providers and care team members.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manages the medical care of patient panel by providing or otherwise arranging for inpatient hospital care of physician’s patients, either through regular hospital rounds, making arrangements with one or more hospitalist(s) or other qualified physician to provide coverage for physician’s hospitalized patients consistent with Medical Staff requirements.
  • Collaborates with patients, families, and members of the care team to ensure excellent patient care outcomes at the clinic location(s) designated by BJC and any other BJC clinical outreach location to which physician may be assigned as patient care demands.
  • Performs and documents medical histories and physicals in the patient’s medical record as required by hospital medical staff bylaws.
  • Provides or arranges for call coverage for clinic patients and inpatient call coverage in a manner acceptable to BJC and in accordance with Medical Staff bylaws, while observing and following all BJC policies and procedures and all applicable legal, ethical and professional standards.
  • Collaborates and teaches advanced practice providers, support staff or any care team member assigned in the care of physician’s patient panel.
  • BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
